And so on, and so on - I could write a list as long as my arm.

How'd I leave Page and Jeff Beck out?! Also, Al Carmichael, the lead guitar for the band I was involved with in high school. He's still rocking and still damn good.

So, I will tae the approach here of mentioning some guitar players maybe you've never heard of, but are amazing talents.

In the jam/jazz/chitlin circuit scene, there is a cat named Bobby Lee Rodgers that is the kind of guitarist that guitarists go see and say "Man, I hate that guy". He was the youngest jazz guitar lead instructor at the Berklee College of Music. If you know anything about the next level of guitar playing, you know what Berklee is and the level we are talking here. Another guy in that space is Jimmy Herring. He is the lead player for the band Widespread Panic. Amazing guitar players.

I saw Tommy Emmanuel mentioned and I'll add to other players in that style: Andy McKee and Don Ross. Both are mind-blowingly good.

Going more mainstream, Jeff Beck is amazing. I also love the standards: Clapton, Hendrix, Harrison, Page.

In the Jazz scene, both Bobby Lee Rodgers and Jimmy Herring are accomplished next level players. But Stanley Jordan amazes me every time I see him play. I think he may be from another planet.

In the bluegrass space, check out Larry Keel and Natural Bridge. Just amazing.

From the oddball [perspective, if you've never seen Dweezil Zappa do the "Zappa Plays Zappa" show, check it out. Dweezil is an amazing guitarist.

...and Steve Martin. Yes, *that* Steve Martin.
I did not know Steve Martin played guitar - I thought he was exclusively banjo! :encouragement:
