Oldies.

Every time I think that I'm the only one who's lonely, someone calls on me. And every now and then I spend my time in rhyme and verse and curse those faults in me. And then along comes Mary.

----

The rollercoaster ride we took is nearly at an end. I bought my ticket with my tears; that's all I'm gonna spend.

----

"Love will abide. Take things in stride." Sounds like good advice, but there's no one at my side. And "Time washes clean love's wounds unseen." That's what someone told me, but I don't know what it means.

In order:
"Along Comes Mary," the Association. Clever lyrics arrangements there.
"Red Rubber Ball," the Cyrkle.
"Long Long Time," Linda Ronstadt. Very pretty song.

If you are the desert
I'll be the sea
If you ever hunger
Hunger for me
Whatever you ask for
That's what i'll be
So when you remember the ones who have lied
Who said that they cared
But then laughed as you cried
Beautiful darling
Don't think of me
Because all i ever wanted
It's in your eyes

"I may make you feel, but I can't make you think."

"Thick as a Brick," Jethro Tull

----

"We live in a time when meaning falls like splinters from our lives."
"Sentimental gentle wind, blowing through my life again. Sentimental lady, gentle one."

"Sentimental Lady," Bob Welch

----

"And it's knowing I'm not shackled by forgotten words and bonds and the ink stains that have dried upon some line that keeps you in the backroads by the rivers of my memory, that keeps you ever gentle on my mind."

"Gentle on My Mind," John Hartford. The lyrics are packed tight with syllables and imagery.

----

"Their faces gaunt, their eyes are blurred, their shirts all soaked with sweat, they're riding hard to catch that herd, but they ain't caught 'em yet, 'cause they got to ride forever on that range up in the sky, on horses snorting fire; as they ride on, hear their cry."

"Ghost Riders in the Sky," Stan Jones, one that never gets old for me.

----

"Those who don't believe me, find your souls and set them free. Those who do, believe and know that time will be your key."

"Green Grass and High Tides," the Outlaws, great song with awesome guitar work.

120 miles S of the Pancake/Waffle line
This one has always struck me as funny. It's from a song called "Average Guy" by Lou Reed. In the song, he claims that he is just an average guy (that alone is funny coming from Lou) and lists all the ways that he is average. Then he sings this line:

Average looks, average taste
average height, an average waist
Average in everything I do
my temperature is 98.2

I've always heard the average temperature is 98.6. So, was this Lou's way of telling us that he was cooler than everyone else? ;-D

Now I'm wandering, a loser down the tracks
An' I'm lyin', but babe I can't go back
'Cause in the darkness I hear somebody call my name
And when you realize how they tricked you this time
And it's all lies but I'm strung out on the wire, in these

Streets of Fire- Bruce Springsteen

IMHO, Darkness on the Edge of Town is his best album lyrically.

"But now I hear you found somebody new
And that I never meant that much to you
To hear that tears me up inside
And to see you cuts me like a knife"

Poison-Every Rose Has Its Thorn

"Thunder only happens when it's raining
Players only love you when they're playing
Say women they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean, you'll know, you'll know"

Fleetwood Mac-Dreams

"Maria came from Nashville with a suitcase in her hand
She said she'd like to meet a boy who looks like Elvis
And she walks along the edge of where the ocean meets the land
Just like she's walking on a wire in the circus
She parks her car outside of my house, takes her clothes off,
Says she's close to understanding Jesus
She knows she's more that just a little misunderstood
She has trouble acting normal when she's nervous"

Me and my friends are like
The drums on 'Lust for Life'
We pound it out on floor toms
Our Psalms are sing along songs

And this whole town is like this
And now we all haul ashes
Work at the mill until you die
Work at the mill and then you die

We're gonna build something this summer
(Gonna build something this summer)
We'll put it back together, raise up a giant ladder
With love and trust and friends and hammers
(This summer)

We're gonna lean this ladder up against the water tower
Climb up to the top and drink and talk
(This summer)

Me and my friends are like
Double whiskey, coke no ice
We drink along in double time
Might drink too much but we feel fine

We're gonna build something this summer
(Gonna build something this summer)
Summer grant us all the power
To drink on top of the water towers

With love and trust and shows all summer
(Get hammered )
Let this be my annual reminder
That we can all be something bigger

I went to your schools, I did my detention
But the walls are so gray I couldn't pay attention
I read your gospel, it moved me into tears
But I couldn't find the hate and I couldn't find the fear

I met your Savior, I knelt at his feet
And he took my ten bucks and he went down the street
I tried to believe all the things that you said
But my friends that aren't dying are already dead

Raise a toast to Saint Joe Strummer
I think he might have been our only decent teacher
Getting older only makes it harder to remember
We are our only saviors
We're gonna build something this summer

My life will be so much better if you dropped dead
I was laying in bed last night thinking
And this thought just popped in my head and I thought
Wouldn't sh!t just be a lot easier if you dropped dead
I would feel so much better.
