I've heard about firebreaks, if that's what they call it. But the usual way to fight fire is not with fire. So if someone is going to make up saying about something it should be clearer. Like, fight wild fire with a small line of fire to clear the brush, and go on to say, fight a house fire with a water hose or baking soda. Doesn't have the same ring, but it's truer.

I didn't know what that meant, I never heard the expression before so I went to look it up. Glad I did. Amusing article.
I think it means to use against your enemy whatever methods they are using against you. For example, if someone is talking trash about you, talk trash about them. Use the same tactics against your opponent.You know the expression, fight fire with fire.
The first time I heard that I thought the person who said it was saying it wrong because you fight fire with water or baking soda. Even though the person who said it, said it right, it still doesn't make sense to me.

It still seems like an exercise in futility. I kinda get where they are coming from. I just think it's not really good advice. Maybe I just think too much. LOL
You're probably right in that it's not the best advice. I guess, at some point, if someone is treating you badly, and you've exhausted all the 'nice' ways to get it to stop, your only recourse may be to use the same methods they're using against you.
