FIFA officials arrested, face U.S. corruption charges - CNN.com

Don't know how many soccer fans we have, but there has been a bad reputation with FIFA. The US had a bid to host the 2022 World Cup but lost to Qatar who was thought to have to low chance to win the bid. News organizations who shown evidence of corruption, and now the US and Switzerland are taking action.

Maybe the US will get to host the 2022 World Cup after all?

Is it only American FIFA officials who are facing extradition to the U.S.? I don't understand why other FIFA nationalities would be extradited to the U.S. It isn't the U.S. who's pressing charges against FIFA; it's Interpol or the International Holy Realm of Soccer Deities or Footballers-R-Us, right?

About time they were charged. But i doubt it will change the host countries.

It is mostly Concacaf members that are accused. 14 of them. High members of countries like Nicaragua, Argentine, Brazil, Uruguay, Honduras, The US and also South Africa. The accusation is brought to an american court by an american DA so the trial will be in the US. It is the US and the FBI that has demanded that these people are given over and the swiss police agreed to help.

I heard that some of the meetings that took place concerning bribes were in the US and the US banking system was used for bribes and money laundering. I think that is how the US is involved. It seems that this is a joint effort with the Swiss.
