My dad lived in Japan during the Korean war, loved it there, but never got to like either fish or rice. I guess he ate on base a lot.

Anyway, meatless Fridays were generally mac'n'cheese night. Sometimes my mom would make omelets, but I remember them being heavily peppered with jelly inside. Not sure what the goal of that was, but it got me to thinking for the longest time that I didn't like omelets.

That brought back memories of my Nana and her "special" jelly filled omelets.
Father's side was Italian, so many meals had some type of pasta along with the meat, thus Friday was true Fish Day. I've grown to tolerate Salmon but to look at tuna still puts me in a bad place.

Not a food, either, but...everyone likes alcohol but me!! I haven't found something that I can drink without making the "bitter face" in the 13 years since I've been 21 (or before that, lol).
If you don’t like the taste of alcohol, next time you go out try ordering either a Strawberry Margarita or Sex on the Beach. The alcohol taste is masked. :)

Nope, can still taste it. I've tried everything! I can sort of be ok with Mike's Hard whatevers or wine coolers, but at that point I'd rather just skip the bitterness and go with fruit juice. :strawberry:

I've eaten fried crickets. They were all right. Done raw eggs before. Not my favorite, but edible. Or slimeable. Eating internal organs doesn't bother me. Chitlins, menudo, whatever. I was kinda put off by the pig's head in the Guadalajara market, but pretty much because of the flies that its defleshed state was attracting.

Speaking of flies, I grabbed a handful of raisins once out of the box, started munching, something wasn't right in my mouth, and it turned out there was a maggot in there. That one, no, I didn't eat. In fact, I may have just thrown the rest of the box away.
I'm an offal lover. In fact, we'll be in Rome in May and I'm looking forward to a selection of internal organs!

Oh - I like rice pudding NOW but as a six year old it was not what I was expecting = just the mouth feel of all these little white lumps I was not expecting!

I still dislike mutton - especially the smell of it cooking

As I've gotten older my tastes are more complex too - I've always loved beets, especially pickled.

BTW - there must be something (besides bugs) that you don't find appealing?
My husband and I tried grouse when we were in Scotland a few years ago and didn't like it much (we did love haggis though). But this is a thread about foods "everyone seems to love." If we are sticking with that, there's nothing I can think of.

Times were often tough for us, too......we just didn't know it when we were kids.
I ate tomato sandwiches with mayo because I liked them.....there's still something comforting about a homegrown tomato sandwich.
One of my favorite meals was meatloaf, fried taters, and pinto beans. Sometimes, I still call my Mom and request this meal.
Sometimes, we would cook fresh green beans from the garden, toss in some diced tomatoes, and a dollop of mayo......mmmmm, good eats.
I prefer Coke, but love Krispy Kreme.......and the Tar Heels have been my beloved team of choice since I was a wee tot.
...Tracy grew up poor as well....she would go in the garden with a salt shaker and pick the 'mater right off the vine and chow down....said she ate so many she'd get mouth sores.....her comfort dish was and still is, noodles and tomato juice-poor folk spaghetti.....
