The Miami Dolphins fired head coach Joe Philbin Monday. Words of wisdom... A loss to the Jets can be hazardous to your NFL health.

The Dolphins are looking for Richie Kotite's number now.

Todd Bowles is the only coach in the last 5 to have a winning record for the Dolphins. It was only 2-1 but hey, I'll take it.

Thanks.

Peyton may not have the arm anymore, but he continues to find ways to win. And that’s all that counts. I don’t know if he’ll return next year. I wonder who they’ll pick to replace him if he doesn’t return.

LOL. One more Jets win and I equal all of last year’s happiness. I remain cautiously optimistic. I also root for teams in various games simply because of the members here. Well, except for the Patriots, were it will be a cold day in hell (or until both Belichick and Brady retire) before I’ll ever cheer them on.

The writing is on the wall for Peyton, but I'm glad he spent his final years here. I wish that he could've come away with another ring. But the Broncos, while good enough for the season, ain't that good right now unless they grow some offensive linemen in a lab. Ah, well. I will note that the fearsome defense just improved with Derek Wolfe, DE, coming out of suspension. Maybe we'll up our sack count - although a sudden deterioration, of course, is but an injury or two away.

It'd also be neat to see McManus hit, say, a 68-yarder when we've got the ball, last play of the first half, and what the hell.

This was a comment to an article on the Dolphins coaching situation:

Bill Belichick laughs to himself once again. I mean has any division had this many sh**y head coaches in it for this long a period of time? I mean since 2001 look at the steaming pile of s* that New England has had to contend with: Dave Wannstedt, Nick Saban, Cam Cameron, Gregg Williams, Chan Gailey, Herm Edwards, Tony Sparano, Eric Mangini, Rex Ryan twice. Is anyone in The AFC East even trying?

;-D

We (the Jets) beat you to it. I am liking the guy. :)

He was the defensive coordinator when Sparano was coach. Bowles was the reason Sparano had as many wins as he did. Sparano would have had a few more wins but I really don't think the guy knew how to tell time or knew anything about math. He did some of the weirdest things when the clock was running down and the game was on the line. The only way I can explain it is that he didn't know how to tell time. ;-D

I'm surprised the Dolphins didn't forfeit games when the clocks were changed back to standard time because they were late. EDIT - I guess they would have been early, not late - that's why they didn't have to forfeit ;-D

Yes! I am looking forward to not watching them this weekend! :cool2:

I'm not getting much relief from the Hurricanes either. I think their coach is going to be on the way out soon. They lost to Cincy last week and they have FSU this week and Clemson in two weeks. When they first got Al Goldin, I thought he did a great job with the team during the difficult stretch that they were in probation limbo. But they don't seem to get any better even though the probation stuff is gone. The Hurricanes don't look much different than they did his first year.

The 1987 Fiesta Bowl between #1 Miami Hurricanes and #2 Penn State Nittany Lions for the national championship will forever be ingrained in my mind. Just reminiscing. :)

&*$%* Testaverde!

I have that game on vhs and it's an amazing game to re-watch because of all of the players in that game that had good NFL careers. Even the kickers in that game were in the NFL.

When Testaverde was the QB for the Jets, and doing pretty good, I went out and got his jersey. The very next week he ruptured his Achilles tendon and was out for the year. The same happened with Pennington when he injured his wrist in the 2003 pre-season and missed a good part of the season, the very next week. I no longer get any QB jerseys until after they are done with the jets and they go on sale for 80% off... like Tebow and Farve. Bad Mojo.

You should have got a Kotite jersey the day he was hired. ;-D

Sure. Not conviction. Inferences.

Or disbelieve.

The court's ruling is the final word and effectdively resolves the debate. I'm happy to move on. And this is obviously a much more inflammatory topic to some than it is with me - I frankly find our preoccupation and investment in sports befuddling and bemusing, not to mention misguided - so I'll decline engaging further on this one. It's not worth producing more angst and anger within this fluffy thread in this good-natured forum than already may exist.

I would tend to agree with this.

It's kind of funny. I was tossing this back and forth with some Vikings fans this weekend and one guy used the "real-world" example of speeders.

Could you imagine if some guy you didn't know told you that some other guy who had never met you (and whom the first guy would not identify) had informed "authorities" that you (or -- you know -- whomever) had been "investigated" and it was found to be "more likely than not that you were at least generally aware" that you did not always strictly observe posted speed limits.

Would you run down to your local municipal building and ask "authority" how much in "credibly inferred" fines you should pay?

I wouldn't (but maybe that's just me).

But in the final analysis, you're right. It's just a bunch of arrested adolescents playing with balls for our amusement.

It's just kind of funny . . . perception, I mean.

The Dolphins fired the Defensive Coordinator today. I don't remember ever seeing a coaching staff gutted only 4 weeks into the season.

The only other early NFL exits I know of are these:

Mike Shanahan got fired 4 weeks in by Al Davis (and Al Davis stiffed Shanahan for the rest of his money as an added bonus) but I think the rest of the staff survived.

George Allen got fired by the Rams after 2 pre-season games

Lane Kiffin got the ax after 4 games (the Raiders again)

Off topic, but I stayed at Don Shula’s country club years ago. I loved the restaurant and all the memorabilia on display. The chairs at the tables were director type chairs and the cloth back of each was signed by a famous football players under Shula. There was only one thing on the menu... Steaks. The waitress brought you a football (which was the menu) with the various steak offerings written with a Sharpie.

I cut Don Shula's hair once. He used to have a vacation home nearby.
