I've more or less given up on the pros for a while. I'm more focused on college football where things are actually interesting.
I'm a nominal supporter of the local university team. I mean, you gotta root for the home team, right?
The university has got world-class instruction and research in engineering, agriculture, veterinary, and biomedical arenas. But the university president got it in his head that the current stadium at the edge of town, in a very pretty setting, should be on the campus instead. Oh, there were hearings and discussions, but they were for form. It was a done deal from the start.
No big deal, right? Cost: $250 million. In an institute of higher learning. No educational program comes close to it in funding priorities. Not close. I'm just frankly appalled by the values being expressed. It's made me look anew at the economic sacred cow - no, make that god - that football has become within the NCAA, and it's just highly disturbing.
I'll get over it. I've known for about 60 years now that my priorities aren't other people's priorities.
