Very excited for this news. I was completely shut off on the idea of fitting The Stand into 1 movie.

The issue I have... is whether or not the material will lend itself to be split up in quarters with enough "action" to warrant an entire movie? Where will the cutoffs be and are there good/natural cut off points? Can they pull this off with staying true to the source material? Im not worried about me and you... its John Q and Jane Q American. Will they sit through an entire movie with a lot of the plot consisting of Nick and Tom riding bikes across the midwest and the backstory and present preparations of Mother Abigail? Along with the first days of getting set up at Hemmingford Home and moving to Boulder. There are slogging parts of the story. I love every word of it... but to get the hook into others to justify the $$$?

I have said it before. This would be ultimate if it were presented on HBO or Showtime as (2) 10 episode series. That way you can have the 'slow' episodes without the pressure of giving the audience their complete money's worth.

The current way the writers of Game of Thrones have worked this problem would work for The Stand. They are not concerned with doing "Season Four = Book Four" but instead weaving the action together to make sense. This works well for "the Qs", but the Constant Reader's complaint would be "but this hasn't happened yet in the book, how can that now be happening?". Either way, this is exciting news IMHO and I can't wait!

The first film could deal with the actual demise of 99.99999% of the population.
The second film would be about all the major characters journey's to Boulder (or Vegas).
The third film could be about life inDenver/Vegas the journey to Vegas.
The fourth film would be about the Stand.

IMHO, 4 films is a mistake. The story would drag to the point that probably by the third and definitely by the 4th most people just would be tired of the whole thing.

 Personally I thought Molly was fine in The Stand. At least ya gotta admit she was better than Shelley Duvall was in The Shining, right?
I always thought Molly Ringwald was a good actress and very nice to look at, I think the character was played well.
By the way every time I see Law and Order SUV... I think what are you up to now Randal Flag (he joined the force wears a suit and acts like he is out for justice).

Were folks bored by the time the third Lord Of The Rings movie was released? No. There's enough good material in the book to have it go for 4 movies, especially if they cast the right actors who give compelling performances. Heck, they could stretch out the Holland tunnel scene for 1/2 hour. Can you imagine the suspense? There's a heck of alot of material they can flesh out in Denver and even the journey that folks make before they go to Denver or Vegas. I think it could work.
