Latest rumor is that The Stand is being made into a four-part movie. Any truth? I need to erase the TV version from my memory :)

Apparently, initially, Boone squished this epic piece of work into one movie but yup its a four-parter with a mahoosive budget. I was scared to hear that it was going to be so compact - personally i dont see how this could ever work as one movie but im now incredibly excited and am eager for news of further developments.................

What works in King's books often doesn't work in movies. It's hard to understand exactly why but these mediums are different. I think reading lends itself to greater imagination by the reader than movies do to the viewer. As a result, something that may work in a book because our minds have to interpret the events in a way that is compatable for our brains comes off as ridiculous in a movie where that is done for us. Or maybe it is something else. But I've groaned many a time at a King-related movie and not just because it often isn't true to the book or has bad acting. It seems like something more than that. There are a few exceptions like "The Green Mile" but my general impression is that King's books don't lend themselves well to the movies. The Stand is a particularly difficult one due to its length and number of major characters. It would be pretty difficult and expensive to get it right.
