Anglicans and Episcopalians come from King Henry VIII's break with the Catholic church. Instead of 7 sacraments, though, they only recognize 2. In England, Queen Elizabeth is head of the Anglican church. Episcopalians are in the US, and I'm not sure who the head of the church is--maybe there isn't a single leader? There is High Episcopalian, in which the service is pretty much exactly like a Mass, and Low Episcopalian, in which the service is closer to a Methodist service.

I only know one version of Amazing Grace, though. The version in our missal is exactly the same as I've heard my whole life. I wonder how yours is different, or how the one you grew up with is different?
Until I went to a Mass - I'd never heard the "my chains are gone portion" of the song.
Here's the version I grew up hearing at the Pentecostal funerals of all my Appalachian relatives.

And here's how I've heard it in the Catholic Church (except our Music Director does a much better job of singing it than this video)

You know, before I converted, I'd grown up hearing a totally different version of Amazing Grace - are we talking about the same Amazing Grace? I like the other version as well, but I like "My Chains are gone".
They played the other (not Catholic version) of Amazing Grace on bagpipes at my dad's funeral - very touching and cool, I loved how you could feel the music in the ground beneath your feet.

I did not know the Anglicans are Catholics without a Pope.

I just looked it up :) The "My Chains" version wouldn't be allowed in our Dioscese--pop songs are verboten. The writer (Chris Tomlin, adapting John Newton) is an Evangelical--we even have difficulties getting Catholic popular music approved (lol). Pretty adaptation, though. If I could pick worship music without it having to be from the approved list, there are a couple of Third Day songs that I'd choose :)

Okay, here are the 3 songs I used to want played at my funeral. I don't necessarily want a funeral now, but if my family feels the need, these 3 songs still work. This is not a joke. I honestly wanted these songs, the second one is so everyone will laugh.

#1. This is the first song I remember hearing.

#2. This is a song that was huge during my formative teenage years. I want to be able to laugh and say, "I made you people sit through this song."

#3. After the finale of Six Feet Under, I was sold on this song.

The Darkside of the Moon (England really)
You know, when Margaret Thatcher died, the British public made this song get to number 2 in the charts.
Pink Floyd's "The Great Gig in the Sky" off the "A Delicate Sound of Thunder" album midway through.
(The last singer about brings tears to my eyes.)

Have you ever seen the blonde girl from the "pulse" gig? The great gig in the sky girls are always amazing, but she was something special.

You may think I'm joking, but I'm not, I want coming back to life by pink Floyd.

I'd never heard that version, so thanks HollyGolightly for posting the video. I was thinking before moving on to read skimom2's post, that it felt like an Extended Dance ReMix! =D Beautiful though!

My mom has said for years that she wants this one played at her funeral:

I think there are some great suggestions here, but y'all know I have such a hard time picking a favorite ANYTHING. I may have to go with the soundtrack idea too Lepp!
