Just saw it on Netflix. Mike Flanagan did a superb job folks. We have another winner here.
I watched this morning and I liked what they did with the story but it came too close to a Lifetime movie, especially the denouement and voice over. Things that I liked: the projection of her thought process as Gerald and herself (explaining the different voices in the book would have taken too much time and possibly only added confusion ), the very realistic escape scene :icon_eek:, the perfect casting of the Space Cowboy character, and the flashbacks. I was hoping for something scarier (at the right moments) and exciting. It just didn't gather momentum and could have used some better music.

Moreover, even though I liked how the director used Jessie as a hologram to display her inner thoughts, it threw a wet blanket over the tension almost at the start. Something about seeing her outside of the cuffs (in one scene she fantasizes that she slips out and escapes) and her walking about the room dulls the seriousness of her predicament. Being in Jessie's head, for the reader, is claustrophobic and quite an ordeal but for the viewer there is no good way to replicate that agony. I prefer the book but I acknowledge great performances by all involved.

Some good points you make there Doc. I'll write a little more about it when I've had a second viewing. From how Flanagan adapted it, I can easily see this being translated to a stage play a la Misery.
