How are you celebrating? (whether you celebrate this weekend or some random Thursday)

What are you thankful for?

~~~~
This year we've been invited to our son's for dinner. This will be the first time his gf cooks dinner for me. I'm a bit nervous. I know she's a good cook, but she's never had to prepare food around someone's allergies.
We're bringing desert. I'm making squares that are similar to date squares, but with cranberries instead of dates. My husband also wants pumpkin pie, so I'm making that too.
I'm thankful for three healthy kids and 5 and 1/3 healthy grandkids.
I am thankful for good health, the fact that I have the use of all my limbs, a son who seems to be doing so much better in life in the last three years, a husband who works hard (even though we have to be separated for a good part of the year), the enjoyment I get from working and for all the people on this board who make me feel so great. I love this place!
This made me think of something.
As a boy growing up in New England, we were taught that the first "Thanksgiving" was celebrated in praise of having survived the brutal Massachusetts winter (of 1624?), which would indicate that it would have happened in the springtime, it seems to me. I have no earthly idea why it is now celebrated on whatever Thursday in November.
That's okay. A lot of the "social studies" I was taught in grade school turned out to be at least a little bit wrong (and a lot parochial).
Still and all, I'm thankful I was born here and now, and not some other place, in some other time.
The random Thursday comment was actually a joke between Canadians and Americans. In Canada we celebrate the second Monday in October. In USA it is the fourth Thursday in November.
I don't remember who or exactly when, but someone posted a Happy Thanksgiving to someone I knew...he replied that he was Canadian and it wasn't Thanksgiving here. His friend then responded, "Well, happy random Thursday then."
And I've always thought that was just so funny, it just stuck in my head.
Happy Thanksgiving, Canada!
(We don't celebrate the tradition here, but I am thankful for everything I have.)
Y'all down yonder there, should be havin' a "Happy Flakesgiving", tis my not so very much esteemed opinion:encouragement:....I mean don't they know what they got:love-struck:???
(Oh my word when it come to a suckin' up, that one was some serious high quality indeed:cool:..and I meant every word:love:)
I'm thankful that Fallout 4 is coming out on November 10th, which is really soon.
