A few weeks ago, after clicking a post from one of the pages I follow on Facebook, I started clicking around (like you do) and saw an older post that suggested doing a small thing every night before bed: writing down three things that went well that day and why they went well.

Now ... that sounds kind of like a gratitude journal, except that a gratitude journal can be vague and/or repetitious. At least, that's what has always kept me from keeping one. After all, how many times am I going to write down that I am grateful for a warm home without feeling it feeling repetitious and meaningless? (I am, though. Don't get me wrong. A warm home is a thing of awesomeness.) But these are specific good things that happen every day, so by their very definition, they are different from each other.

The point of this exercise, supposedly, is that it will help cultivate happiness. Well, I shall see, as I intend to try it, starting tonight, for a week at least. I bought a little notebook that I'll put in my nightstand drawer, and ... well, even I can manage to do something for a week.

So anyway, I thought I'd share the idea and the link in case anyone else might like to give it a try.

Sounds like a positive idea - much better than dwelling on negative things and that sort of "Woe is me" mentality that we can sometimes get into.

Sounds nice. Gratitude journals have always struck me as a bit pretentious, but a Good Things notebook? :okay:

For one of my "things that went well" last night, I wrote down that I got a lot of errands done. For the why part, I figured there was no point in being anything but honest, so I wrote "because I accidentally got locked out of the apartment building and had a few hours to kill." :D
