Glad to see someone posted Holes. That was a super fun read. Movie could not do it justice, although I would say they tried admirably. Also good is anything by Madeline L'Engle and Piers Anthony (especially A Spell For Chameleon).

Loved The Outsiders and That Was Then This is Now too.

Also remember:
I Am David by Anne Holm
The Silver Sword by Ian Serraillier
A Kestrel for a Knave by Barry Hines
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey
Storm Boy by Colin Thiele

One story that stayed with me was a play actually, The Diary of Anne Frank... I think every student should study this.
Why not read her actual diary. It is quite real. But be sure to get the full version. Her father edited out a few thoughts about the mother he didn't like and some thoughts about her waking sexuality. If she had survived she could very well have been a good writer or journalist. I read it first in School but reread sometimes. It is an important document at the same time as it is a good read.

All seven Harry Potter books
The Hobbit
The Nightmare Room (It might not be a book, I've seen it on the kids network)
Christopher Pike and R.L Stine, except for Goose Bumps - that's strictly geared toward people under 13.

Hello, young and mature readers. I have read many books, but there are only a few from this list. By far my favorite is “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton, I recommend that you look at this one essay on this topic to understand the real coolness of the book, read about the characters, history, main idea and theme, drama and many interesting things, but be sure to read in full, just the top. Good luck!
