My name is Bill and have been an avid "Constant Reader" since the mid 70s when I picked up my first Stephen King book, 'Salem's Lot. I still have that book along with a copy of every one of Mr. King's print books including all of the Richard Bachman Books. I finally was able to meet the legend that is Stephen King when my wife Ann-Marie bought me VIP tickets to a meet & greet at the Mark Twain House in Hartford. God I love that woman! That's where I got my one and only signed copy of a Stephen King book: "Joyland." I haven't even cracked a page in that copy, but bought another one so that I can save that signed copy as a cherished memento of a fantastic birthday evening.

I came to this website after reading a Rolling Stone article by Kory Grow titled Fighting Fire with Fire: Metallica Look Back on Ride the Lightning. When asked where the title for Ride the Lightning came from, Kirk Hammett said: "I was reading The Stand by Stephen King, and there was this one passage where this guy was on death row said he was waiting to "ride the lightning." I remember thinking, "Wow, what a great song title." I told James, and it ended up being a song and the album title." I thought that was so cool, that the title for a multi-platinum rock album, one that I have liked for years, was inspired by a line from what is probably one of my favorite Stephen King books.

Well, I've undoubtedly just informed all of you about something that you already knew, but that's my first go at posting something here, for better or worse. I hope to get acquainted with some of you fine people soon. Have a great day and maybe, if this is well received, I'll share a recent experience that had me thinking I had just stepped into a "Stephen King storybook moment" or taken a trip directly into the Twilight Zone.

Hey, welcome to the Board!
Maybe I'm crazy, but I thought Paul Edgecombe used the phrase "ride the lightning" in reference to feeling guilty about John Coffey when he's talking to Elaine, his friend at the old folks' home in The Green Mile.

I don't have a copy of either The Green Mile or The Stand with me at the moment, but hey, it's all good. Cool and groovy that the phrase stuck with Hammett. :)

I thought the same thing Lily, but posted it as it was reported. I agree that the phrase stuck. Nice meeting you, by the way.

From The Green Mile:
"It's my punishment, for letting John Coffey ride the lightning; for killing a miracle of God."

Thanks guys, but the credit should go to Metallica for the inspired Artwork, the brilliant programmers who wrote the Photo Editing software that I used and our new member William Bell.
For his great first post gave us all an interesting piece of SK Trivia, and me an idea for a welcome.
You should keep this in your avatar portfolio. It's quite clever.
