Just had to start a new thread - for the last nine days all I could think of were the changes happening at work.

I won't know until Monday at 2 p.m. what's happening with my job.

My wish is that I go down to a 0.50 position, but this means 'bumping' out a good friend from work. I've only been in that section of the hospital since March 2017 but they go by your overall seniority and I've been with the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority since 2005.

If that happens, then she has to 'bump' someone else and so on, and so on.

I know it sounds like it's dog eat dog and 'every man for himself' but the Union is doing all they can to help us.

Anyway, soon I'll know one way or the other. The waiting is the hardest part (as that song goes...)

p.s. Sorry - just had to vent and get this off my chest :fingers::nope:

I’m sorry, Neesy! Problems with work can be so very stressful, and the ones you face are even worse because they involve affecting others you care about personally. Some people can deal with that “dog eat dog world” sentiment, and unfortunately it seems like those people are the ones who get ahead in the workfield more often than not. I will be hoping that a solution comes up in which you can keep doing what you want to be doing. Just try to take it a day at a time, and don’t lose hope. :love_heart:

So sorry girlfriend. I wish you the best, as always.

Thanks - I can deal with change - as long as I end up with a job - there is also the chance that if others with more seniority have decided to go after your job and there are no positions left that you're qualified for, you might be laid off.

As I told a couple of friends in PMs, I did decide to fill out an Opt-In form on the last Friday before my week off. I dropped it off just before the cut-off date last Monday morning.

My reasoning was that it was better to be proactive, rather than adopting a 'wait and see' attitude.

I've never been cut throat or super ambitious i.e. trying to put others down so I can look good, but if it comes to job security, I will do what I have to in order to continue to make money.

I'm willing to go from a 0.75 position to a 0.50 position as well - figure it will be a gradual transition to eventual retirement.

The good news is that now that I have reached the age of 60, Health Employees Benefits told me I'm entitled to an unreduced pension, and don't have to wait for the old Rule of 80 (formerly called Magic 80) - so that's good news!

...I would be a big bag of nerves too, but if it came to being employed or no-then the Seniority card gets played....sucks for those lower on the food chain, and I’ve been on both sides of this-but it’s about you looking after you....
Thanks Scott! :butterfly::)
All the best, Neesy, I hope things work out just the way you'd like them to.
Thanks Flake :kiwi-fruit: :star:

*HUGS* Hope it works out ok..
:frog: Thanks JMR :encouragement:

(((Neesy))) That is so like you - worrying about others losing their jobs - you're a nice human :)

I don't think they'd dare lay you off but if you are laid off, can you collect unemployment?
I'm pretty sure that would make me eligible - I remember when we lived in Ottawa I collected it for awhile when I had to take one year of Leave without Pay to take care of Josh (back in 1989!)

They gave us a whole package with a lot of information so that's something I will refer to, if and when this should happen.

p.s. Thanks!

(I just got up early and made some homemade chicken soup from the bones of the chicken) - maybe that will "cure what ails me" or "put hair on my chest" :beguiled:

Aw, girl, you're in my thoughts. Half time would be good, eh? I'm with ya on that.
So you'll know tomorrow - that's good. The waiting is hard. (There's a Tom Petty song for the all the things!)
We've been through it with the Ogre's job. As it turned out, it was the best thing ever for his career. His department got outsourced. Sometimes the worst things end up being the best things.
