Just curious if the organization has begun for the upcoming Halloween story. Not looking to join the authorial process, as I'm more than happy just reading the work, but I wanted to know if a thread dedicated to the topic has been reserved so I can follow the proceedings and acquire insights as to the subject matter, etc. Looking forward to it.

...no-one has volunteered to take the helm, nor has there been any discussion.....if anyone has the moxy to be the Editor, I would love to hear from them....I'm a yearly writer-don't do the whole editing thingy, but have learned much from those who have taken on the mantle.....

Maybe this is the year to go back to the beginning of the tradition of these stories.

No discussion, no deciding what it will be about. Nothing. A fly-by-the-seat of your pants type of thing that starts with someone setting up the tale and then each person blindly getting what comes and adding to it. Having no clue what's coming until it is posted to the board on a daily basis. The next person in line sees what is written right along with everyone else and then they have to pick up the pen, and be challenged to add to it.

I'm telling you, these type of stories are so much fun! And they are hilarious, but there is good writing in there. If you are too serious about yourself, then this wouldn't be the type of writing experience for you.

The old, traditional SKMB stories are strictly for fun.

I second that suggestion. Loved the "stone soup" feel of the old Halloween stories. It was fun, without the stress of watching every word, phrase, grammatical issue. Pick up the stone (your part) and throw it into the pot ( the 2016 SKMB Halloween Story).

Everyone would have to be very aware that this is for ALL levels of writing. If you are so professional you don't want to play, then don't. This is fun stuff, funny, challenging.

No nasty critiquing. All support, all for fun. Stephen King will NOT read this. NO ONE is going to be "discovered." This is totally goofy fun. I just can't stress that enough.

Everyone who signs up to write, YOU ARE AN ADULT AND RESPONSIBLE FOR YOURSELF. If you choose to drop out, then let everyone know. It would be each writer's responsibility to log in every single day to see if it is there turn yet to write. And then DO IT.

Everyone would just do their best. TRY very hard to follow a story, keep characters straight, make the plot make sense.

BUT GUESS WHAT? If this doesn't happen, so what???? So what? It makes it great fun to see how the hell the next writer is going to figure out what to do with certain elements, or if they will just totally ignore them and force someone down the line to pick up that thread.

And you know what? That happened more than I can tell you. By the end of the story, someone would say, "what happened to that character?" or, "wait a minute, wasn't this story set in San Diego and all of a sudden, we're in Kalamazoo!"

So much fun!!!

...I have proved time and again that I have very little sense or decorum...so c'mon you dogfaces!...who's wit me???....
And you are a good writer, so to just allow yourself to be very vulnerable to the ride by the seat of your pants writing is challenging to your skills. It makes a writer work HARDER to try to make sense of some things that make absolutely no sense!!!!

You guys think about this. If someone wants to step up and be editor of the more formal writing experience instead of the old school SKMB story way, then by all means, you guys go for it.

If you want to play -- no editing what someone writes (other than there are some basic rules of the board that have to be followed -- no porno etc....) not knowing what's coming your way....then maybe we can do that this year.

THoughts and discussion open for all!

To very basic rules that have been included since day one:
1) NO FAN-FICTION
At all. Ever. Mr. King hates it, and so does his team of lawyers. Mr. King knows we love his writing, but stealing his characters and situations is a big no-no. It will get this board shut down slicker than s*it through a goose.

2) NO SEXYTIMES
This is a PG board. Remember that.
