Ohmygosh, has it really been 30 years? I remember being so excited that Star Trek was back. And then I didn't much care for the first season because the stories seemed to be remakes of the original Star Trek episodes. I was so disappointed :( but the later seasons got soooooo much better and I was happy again :)

I also remember the rumors that one of the cast members was leaving after the first season and hoping it would be Yar. I got my wish lol.

Didn't start airing over here until September 1990 (but that sort of delay was common in those days; it's why the whole 'What the UK does now is what America was doing 5 years ago' thing came about). And yep, the biggest part of S1 was a dud, as was a fair chunk of S2. As no bounce no play said, the earlier eps were pretty much retreads of TOS plots, slightly dressed up - I'll disagree about Yar, though. I kind of liked her. Can't think why... :biggrin2: (Actually, that's a lie: there was one scene in 'The Naked Now' where my jaw just dropped open. Gimme a break, though, I was only 17. :D)
'Encounter at Farpoint' was probably the worst opening double-ep in the franchise's history, though. None of them have been particularly great, admittedly, but EaF? *shudder* I actually hated Troi as a character back then. Fortunately she, and the series as a whole, got a lot better, and the only character I was happy to see the back of was Wesley (though I have nothing against Wil Wheaton).

Was The Naked Now the episode where Yar and Data got friendly? I didn't like Troi either - I liked her better when her mom started appearing in the series :)

Our BBCAmerica tv channel airs a lot of Star Trek reruns. Are a lot of y'all fans?

Indeed it was. :biggrin2:
Early Deanna was a bit too 'From the "No sh!t, Sherlock" files', IMO. "I sense deception", etc in relation to (IIRC) the Romulans. Deception? Romulans? Well, I never.
Lwaxana was a character I never really took to, but adding her did round Deanna out a little, so...

Our re-runs used to be on Sky One (nightly, on a seemingly never-ending loop), while the BBC has repeated it a couple of times if memory serves, but not for a long time now. These days, the never-ending loop of nightly TNG has been taken over by SyFy. I can't get that channel anymore, but of course I own the DVD boxset so it bothers me not a jot (along with the TOS boxset and all the films up to the final 'true' Trek one. I have seen, but refuse to buy, the Abrams' abominations).
Oh, and in the UK we now have TOS, TNG, DS9, V'ger (;)) and Enterprise available through Netflix. We also have ST:D, but I'm treating that as non-canon because of the obvious design and technological differences, and might not bother beyond the (dull) pilot. If they wanted to reboot, they should have called it a reboot and had done, not steal an audience by claiming it as an insert/continuation series and then going 'Oh yeah. Well, it's like this...'
