Hi GNTLGNT, I recently saw a picture of a King Con gathering and you were very easy to pick out. A giant of a man indeed (which includes the giant heart as well from what I've seen so far). All the best, mal.

Yep, this was my first, too. It was January 18th, 1993...Alabama and it was snowing hard (wait, why do I sound like Sofia from the Golden Girls?) and I was 16. My father took me to the grocery store to get a Stephen King book. I found a book carousel of random paperbacks and gleefully grabbed the first SK I saw. It was this copy of The Shining. I got home and read for days, the snow falling outside my window.

I think it must have been around 1980 for me. My family was overseas, and I picked it up at a paperback book exchange. I remember being absolutely terrified--I had to read the chapter 'Inside 217'
in the living room while sitting right between my parents --lol.

That's the one I have. Shiny silver tone cover. Love it.
Edit: hmmmm mine doesn't say "from the author of It" though since I bought it upon original publication, which was a number of years before Itwas published.
Same. I didn't notice that on the cover - this is a pic from Google :) I've lost my original copy years ago. I don't have any King PBs anymore, aside from a copy of the original The Stand, for sentimental reasons. I killed at least six copies of that PB before I finally got a HB :)

I wanted to throw holy water on this book. Gives me the heeby jeebies. Lol.
I actually threw mine in the garbage while reading it because my mother got sick! I was a very impressionable catholic school kid at the time. Once she got better though, I rebought the book a week or so later and still have it. I LOVE that cover!
