My Irish bestie is very scornful of 'plastic Paddys'--lol. The way the US celebrates gets right up her nosePeople here are asking why I'm not wearing green. I tell them because I'm Irish (dual US/Ireland citizenship), and we don't do usually do that. It's all the rest of you that do that green thing.

Our Bishop offered a dispensation of all Lenten obligations today so we can have corned beef on a Friday instead of fish. He did respectfully request that we observe our Lenten sacrifices on another day. Maybe we'll do fish tacos on on Tuesday to make up for this. We're going to have some steak and green beers tonight somewhere.

Thank goodness. I forgot today was Friday (I'm on Spring break and lost track of the days.) and had some beef stew earlier today.

Let Us Prey (2014) - A rookie cop begins her first night shift at a remote Scottish police station where a motley crew of both cops and prisoners are stuck for the night. Soon, all hell breaks loose when a mysterious stranger enters the station. Though this film is set in a small Scottish town, the director is Irish, so I've included it on this list. Byzantium (2012) - Residents of an English coastal town learn, with deathly consequences, the secret shared by the two mysterious women who have sought shelter at a local resort. This moody piece by Irish director Neil Jordan (who also directed one of my childhood favorites, Interview with the Vampire) is perfect for melancholy introverts who would much rather keep to themselves than deal with the drunken crowds at the bars this St. Patty's Day.
