Oh my. A dead sheep in the living room. That sounds...er....words fail me. There was a dish in New Mexico called Menudo that had sheep intestine in it. It was supposed to be a good hangover cure(this was back in my party hearty days). I tried it. It wasn't.Happy Thanksgiving Misery, hope you have a great one . And I'm wishing one to everyone on the SKMB
Over here there's been a few traditional events since I arrived. There's been Ramadan, I joined a neighbour for the dinner where they break the fast on on the first day of Ramadan and it was a really lovely occasion, everyone in the extended family came around with cakes and tagines and the kids were all very excited. They were getting the water for the tea out of a well in the middle of the living room! Was a very interesting night even though everyone was speaking arabic around me I didn't feel excluded and I had a lovely time.
Then there's Eid the main muslim festival, but I'm really not too keen on that one because for a week before you see sheep being bought and carried in the most crazy fashions ( like in the boot of the car ) and you see people sharpening knives in the market in preparation and you just know it's about to be a really tough day for sheep. I don't like the way they get killed, some take up to 20 mns to die. I have been invited in a Moroccan family for Eid's breakfast but I couldn't do it, I knew the poor dead sheep would be hanging from a rope in the living room and I'm just too squeamish for that sort of things. It's another culture, I don't mean to judge it but I stayed well clear of that celebration.
Thanks for sharing!
