When Stephen King was the 'man with no name' I was wondering if he picked up any hitch-hikers( and if they were weird that's better)

    Lily Sawyer Merry meet.

If he had, don't you think that person would have come forward by now and claimed bragging rights? I imagine Mr. King would be a hard person to forget.

Yeak, like Lily said, I imagine the man who he picked up would have emerged at some point or another with a book to sell.........or at least a Geraldo interview or something.

To be sure he has picked up many a strange one along the way. Most populate his books.

Why do you assume it was a man? What about if it was some bird with cut off denim jeans with big juggs. Blonde, like a Swedish back-packer who came up to Maine to see the 'Man'. 'Can I stay at your'e house tonight Mr King? I lost my passport. I'm 17 and have read all your'e books.....'

He's picked up at least one, a small boy.
By his own admission he still has the heart of a small boy that he keeps in a jar on his desk!

I'm pretty sure he's said that he borrowed that [quote, not the heart] from someone else. :biggrin2:

If the evidence from his short stories are any clue...Chattery Teeth...Mute...Road Virus Heads North...or was it Gramma? or The Woman in the Room? And didn't Christine pick up a hitchhiker? Who was driving, Arnie? His two friends in the car? Memory...have that disease that makes you forget, Anderson's. (Lisey's Story, if it matters) But I liked that one in Christine...you got the Heimlich there...the hitchhiker who...to me, is a kind of Hitchcock, if you catch my meaning. What was his name? Barry Gottfried. Heh! Check it out, chapter 34 of that story, "Leigh and Christine"...chapter starts with lyrics from The Clash:

My baby drove up in a brand-new Cadillac...

Seems like there must be other stories with hitchhiker scenes though I don't recall specific instances at the moment. The Stand? Yeah, I think there's a scene or two in The Stand.

I wonder who gave Stephen a ride when he thumbed?

Some of Stephen's stories (and one very scary experience) eventually put a stop to my hitch-hiking days, I used to do it a lot as a teen.
(Carried a wickedly long fishing/hunting knife under my jeans strapped to my calf, which in hind-sight was a friggen stupid thing to do. :O_O: What the hell was I thinking?! Probably wasn't...)

I've never hitched anywhere. You might get picked up by a weirdo.

If he picked up a hiker before he was famous it's quite possible the person wouldn't remember him when he became famous.
