I just finished reading this one again while also watching the movie in same time frame. AND it has to be said...... much better read than movie..... in my own opinion..... without giving away a ton of spoilers..... READ it again people :snicker: sooo worth the time.
If you are referring to the Kubrick movie you won't get much argument from most of the members here, who seem to feel he changed what the book was about to fit his own conception rather than sK's.

Apples and oranges. Or oranges and lemons...say the bells of St. Clement's. My first experience with anything King-related was Kubrick's The Shining. Kubrick's. Based on a Stephen King novel. Everyone in the theatre at the time loved it. Never heard a word of complaint. Most, I'd hazard, never read the story. It was probably 26 years later before I read the novel, more than once...and I believe I probably saw the movie again a time or two televised on television. In both the movie and the story I came away with the sense that Jack felt he was a man more sinned against than sinning, a kind of King Lear, blow winds, spout fire, spit rain! And yet some folk believe we have a living Constitution. Go figure.

I don't know, friends. I usually like movies and books that part ways and are different enough to be separate storylines. That's the ONLY way I can enjoy the existence of a movie and the book. The hedge animal scene in the book when Danny is in the playground might haunt me forever but the image of those twins in the hallway in the movie freak me out, too.
