I don't know if I'm getting prickly or grumpy or just more on the lookout for examples of rudeness. Yesterday, for example, I was walking along a single lane sidewalk and this guy in one of those motorized buggies for people who can't walk comes zooming in the opposite direction and would have driven over me if I hadn't moved out of the way. He was going, I'd say, 15-20mph. He looked like a grumpy person. Today, I'm sitting having a coffee, a lady is behind me at the next table and she's having a smoke. The cigarette smoke is blowing in my direction. I'm a smoker, but that's not the point. No consideration.

i've noticed careless drivers recently, vehicles coming from the other direction, or turning onto a street where i wait at the stop or red-light. remarked the same to this lady i finished working for today, five windows installed, wrapped, but we're talking and i said man, lately, all these drivers veering into my lane. gotten to the point where i've asked my self if i'll have a week where that doesn't happen two three four five times a week. i can't say that one could blame it on cell phone usage as i'm not that observant...it happens and it happens quick-like...well, okay, remembering one now, it was due to another following too close, in a hurry, and he couldn't wait for the vehicle in front of him to get out of the way. i'm headed in his direction, lights on, here he comes!

yikes! little courtesy, bub! and it was a whatchamacallit, tow truck type vehicle.

i think we should be issued phazers...like from star-trek? set phasers to stun! that's all she's got, cap'tn i ain't got anymo! nonsense, damn the torpedoes! full speed ahead, o'mallie! book 'em dano, murder one.

trying to cross the lift bridge has always been a nightmare. one way off this island, right, the lift bridge, so not much of an island. but too, same way, nice to see some courtesy...long line of cars...waiting at a stop or the lumberyard, say...someone lets you out. thank you! i'll dance at your next wedding! invite me. please. i like the free drinks! ummmm. yes.

While shopping one time, an older lady ran right into my shopping cart, and never said 'excuse me' or anything. Acted like she didn't do anything.
Then another time at the same store, we were leaving, and a guy almost ran over Kat cause he was in such a hurry. I was ready to go all in his face if he had hit her with his cart.

There's too many examples to list. Seems everyone lost their manners when cell phones (not the original 'bricks' from the 80's) became what most keep their noses glued to. Hold a door open for someone? Sure. Do you even get a thank you anymore? No.

Well you'd get a "Cheers, mate" (or just "Cheers"; "mate" is optional) from me. It wouldn't matter how busy I was or what else I was thinking about, there's always time for a bit of courtesy.

[EDIT] Hell, I even apologise for not holding doors open if the person was close by and headed that way but I hadn't noticed them.

I stop traffic so school children can cross a very busy road safely. I won't tell you how many times cars ignore me, nearly hitting me or children with gestures. I also cycle to work. I do take care to follow rules of the road. I can't tell you how many times I signal to make a turn and a car speeds up to overtake me. Arrogance and impatience. I let it wash over me. Like Grandpa I refuse to be a victim and let it ruin my day.

Watch Very British Problems. It's a hoot! They say in the show that Brits are the most apologetic people anywhere, apologizing for crap they didn't even do.

There is definitely a big case of The Nasties going around.

The good thing is that you can really brighten someone's day by being nice. Even more than normal. You can just roll through life like a parade throwing rainbows and glitter instead of candy if you want to.

I suppose you could throw candy, too, if you wanted. That may get misinterpreted, though. Especially if you're driving a big creepy van. It's best to just share your happy attitude, if someone misinterprets that you can still rest well knowing you've done your best...
