Linoge was right. Hell really is repetition. I guess one of the things that makes me think of that line right now is the fact that this is, like, my sixth incarnation here. Every time I show up I use a new identity thinking that this time I'll stop changing email addresses, keep the same name, password, all that good stuff like a normal person would. But that never happens. It's like, I'm always on the run. From what? From whom? I don't even know anymore. It's not like I'm a criminal or anything. I'm not running from the law. But I've been to some dark places online, places where predators hide and lie in wait like hungry crocs waiting for a thirsty zebra to get too close to the water's edge, and I have unwittingly attracted more than my fair share of unwanted attention.

There are a lot of dangerous people out there--not just in the real world, but in the virtual world, too. And if you're not careful, dangerous people can take an interest in you. Now, I'm not here to tell you any stories. I'm just here to tell you the truth. Bad things happen, even to good people. Life is cruel and if you're strong, you learn how to deal with it. You take the bad with the good, learn from your mistakes and move on with your life. If hell is at your heels, you do what you can to fight it. And you never, ever, ever give up.

Anyway, it's great to be back! Sorry to hear you northerners are buried in so much snow right now. That must be a special kind of hell in and of itself, and I hope the weather improves for you guys very soon. :-(

P.S. Mr. King, I love your work--always have and always will. To me, you are the master of fiction, better than any and every other writer out there. I hope with all my heart that you and your family are doing well, and that God blesses you with many more years to share your gift with us. We readers, we all love you! But you already know that, I'm sure. :)

I think the board has had that many incarnations, too. If it gets too deep, one can always dig a hole in the ground, crawl in, and listen to the voices outside as the elect stomp around. Quinzhees work, too. Some swear by tinfoil. I wear a chook. Stay safe. Welcome aboard...movie on the mess deck at ten.

Thank you, Flake. I almost feel like this is one of the only safe places for me to post right now. It sounds crazy, I know. And I'd try to explain what I mean by that, but it wouldn't make any sense to you. It's just, have you ever felt like you were actually EXPERIENCING a nightmare scenario? Something that could've come straight out of one of King's books?

What is a chook, Walter? And where can I get one?

I'm wearing one in my pic...snow-covered, like a quinzhee, at least the brain where it matters. Chook is a...probably is a mispronunciation of the French word toque...I think that is how it is spelled. Don't forget to put on your chook! And where are your choppers! Put on your swampers, too! Do I need to put my foot down! Too, here in the U.P. we pank the snow. You live in an area where 400" of snow over the winter is not unheard of, all manner of things begin to develop a a kind of fluidity that carries along those willing to go with the flow. Or against it, one.
