Hmmm... they told me I was excommunicated for thinking along the same lines. But now with "Papal infallibility," his words speak the truth for the Catholic Church. But what if the next Pope decides Pope Francis was indeed wrong and then reverses him? A rather sticky Catch-22. Should I seek an apology while the iron is hot? ;)

Careful, I got a smarmy "Catholicism isn't magic" response once for questioning why the church needed so much human intervention to find God's will...

I'll check USCCB to see what the what is, but I do know that I was taught in RCIA Hell is an unknown - we presume it to be total separation from God - not hellfire and brimstone - those things are literary (think Dante's Inferno) -not historical. As far as the story of Adam & Eve goes, it falls into the category of the Pentateuch - which are the first five books of the bible and have been taught to us as our "creation stories" - not to be taken literally - and I am certain this is what the Pope believes. But I have never heard that Pope Francis wishes to change Catholic doctrine.

aww..not to be flippant for our Catholic members,in fact I used to be an altar boy and am still a CINO(Catholic in name only)but cheese whiz on the host would definitely jazz it up..pretty bland tasting but,I suppose the idea isn't really meant as an hors d'oeuvres..wow am pretty sure I fumbled that spelling..

  14. When did the Walton's have money except for John Boy and his "fancy cars"? A friend of mine HAS seen her mansion in Heaven and hers WAS full of giant precious gems all over the walls, I believe that our mansions in Heaven are personal and unique.... IF you make Heaven

  15. One minute after true death, you will certainly learn if Hell or Heaven is real (SO HE HAS A 50/50 CHANCE HE IS RIGHT, and isn't he supposed to be the LAST POPE?))... my Dad saw Heaven, no-breath, no pulse dead for 1/2 hour, during WWII and came back to tell about it. You don't go to flaming pits of Hell if you don't make Heaven.... you go into a jail cell about 8'x8'x8', awaiting Judgement Day about 1007-8 years later. yOU ARE SURROUNDED BY DEMONS SCREAMING AT YOU, "YOU FOOL,,, YOU COULD HAVE BELIEVED IN JESUS... Judgement Day, you are judged by every word in the Bible (Jesus IS the Word) ... Basic judgement will be the 10 commandments, .... You will be judged by everything you ever said... everything you ever did, everything you ever thought, and even judged for some things you were supposed to do ----- (like when I drove by Stephen's House back when we were in High School together. A loud audible voice in my ear said "Stop in and say 'Hello' to Stephen" ... I rejected, saying I would do it tomorrow, and I was in a hurry, which I really wasn't. Even when I got home, my Dad asked me if there was something I was supposed to do? Then, if you miss Heaven Hell will be forever and forever, and forever ,,, 10 million times ten million years times 10 million time 10 million years and continuing onward. Just like Heaven being personal ,,, Hell will be personal (I can't imagine Hitler's level of pain in the lowest level of burning, flaming Hell)

The doctrine of the Catholic church is not opposed to the theory of evolution (Many people, even Catholics, misunderstand this), as long as there is recognition that God set it in motion. The Pope isn't saying anything new in recognizing that Adam and Eve is a fable, either. The catechism and official doctrine says that many of the stories in the Old Testament (and details in the New) are allegorical in nature--it's how people passed on moral lessons in the past--indeed, we still do so.

Pope Francis is...wow. I have no words. He was a good choice--I think he'll be like Blessed John XXIII. They picked him as a compromise, thinking that he'd live with the status quo and die soon, and by that point, one of the bigger factions would have enough votes to elect their candidate. Nope. He opened Vatican II and made great changes. Pope Francis is a similar situation.

I would be cautious with this. Having read it, it rang some bells: there is no "Third Vatican Council"--the synod of Bishops is in no way the same thing. Plus, the language was off. I tried to track down the original document, and couldn't find anything. So I went to Snopes & found this: "the blog that published this item, the Diversity Chronicle includes a disclaimer noting that "The original content on this blog is largely satirical."

I'm thinking our hoss is talking about Sam Walton and Walmart. I'm just guessing though.

@skimom2 thanks for putting it so well - you always do. I'm such a fledgling I have trouble saying what I mean and I don't want to open the door for more argument.
