My favorite SK novel is The Shining. I think you should read The Shining :) Its best read on a dark and stormy night :) If you've seen the movies, try to put them out of your head... the movies don't capture the mood like the novel does, and try to imagine Tim Daly instead of Jack Nicholson lol

I agree about The Shining. It's one of my favourites and always has been...but! I'm one of few (I'm guessing) that liked the mighty Jack Nicholson in the movie. I know SK thinks he hammed it up a bit, and maybe he did, but I still like him, and unfortunately, once Jack's in your head, he kinda stays there, lol!

Welcome to the board anyway lol!

...something "fun"?....that's not a word I'd commonly associate with King...he has a sly sense of humor, but not the off the wall kind that Koontz puts out there-and King's novels are by their nature, not in the humor vein...maybe I'm taking your use of the word "fun" too literally, but I think my girl Staro is right...the DT series has it's lighthearted as well as dark moments...get your gunna and your waterskins and begin the pursuit with Roland now...

I guess you could say that I use the term rather loosely but yes, if you have the same sense of humor King does, his books can be fun. This is why I want him to finish The Plant so bad and I cannot wait to see Cell (post production) or Eyes of the Dragon (rumored). I watched the remake of Carrie and Chloe Grace Mortez as Carrie was a great choice, even though Sissy Spacek could never be fully done justice by anyone. I was looking forward to the remake of It (rumored) but as far as I can tell that is just a rumor or way far off. IMDB says still in script... :(. I am kind of on the fence about It, excited to see it but at the same time not anxious to see my favorite childhood clown remade into something that would fit the ideals of good television now a days, unless they get Tim Curry to play Pennywise again.

I have seen all of his movies but I never think about them while reading his novels. I did fine with The Stand and It. Dolores Claiborne was no different. I should be okay with The Shinning when I choose to read it. The movie scared the hell out of me when I was a child. The original, not the remake.

Welcome Kelly,
You have read Hearts in Atlantis, and The Eyes of The Dragon then I suggest like a few have all ready- The Dark Tower Books. Quite a few books of King's connect to the Dark Tower.
Ranald Flagg and the Yellow Men, I think Ted from Hearts appears in the DT series (If my memory serves me well).
Talisman and Black House are also great. I like Just after Sunset, Everything Eventual, Skeleton Crew and Night Shift. These books are short stories.

Turns out Randall Flagg is the villain in quite a few of his novels, more than just the ones you've listed. Some people even say that one of his depictions is 'He Who Walks Behind the Rows', and yet another is 'Andre Linoge'. If you think about it it makes sense but only the writer himself could really tell you.

I did not like the remake of The Shinning anywhere near as much as watching Jack Nicholson scream 'Here's Johnny' through the crack in the door with the axe in his hand.

I can't remember Andre Linoge, but yes Flagg does appear in a lot books and places. He is in the Stand. Walter, Man in Black I believe are more of Randall. It is amusing.
