I am new to this. Having a hard time navigating around this site.
Will introduce myself with a TRUE story. Had the full collection
of Stephen King books in hardcover. A close friend offered to store
them for me while I was moving. Two weeks after moving I called
her to say I was ready to get my cherished books back. She had given
them away to a friend's daughter. I told her get them back. She said
she couldn't. When I asked why she told me the person she had given
the books to; her house burnt down the day after she got the books.
TRUE STORY. Now I am starting all over again. Have just over half
of the books replaced and haven't spoken to her since.

Seriously? Who does that... ? Well, hopefully you can get it re-stocked and, hopefully you will enjoy your time here. Nice to "meet" you! :cheerful:

Sorry Hon, but that sounds like a very fishy story that she gave you and what a nerve she had giving YOUR books to someone else when she said she would store them for you!!!! I wouldn't speak to her either if I did I'd have to give her one swift hard kick to the derriere.

I called the person; her house did burn down... The fire dept. did not find a cause for the fire either.. My 'friend' outfitted her new home for her. I thought
if she can do that why not replace my books! Lots of tears over those lost books.

I was going to agree with Haunted as in "hmmm - gullible much?" but if you called and she said her house did burn down, that is indeed quite spooky.

So sorry to hear about this and good luck in finding replacements. I started collecting about 3 years ago and I still don't have a full set yet, but I am working on it! (My husband thinks I am a bit obsessed).

You are so right, if she could 'outfit' someone's home, she could replace your books! Shall I send Uncle Guido to have a chat with her? Meet Uncle Guido.

Should have been clearer; sorry. Told she was staying at a shelter with her children in Toronto area. I called that shelter and while they would not put me
through to her they did give her the message and she did call me back. I could tell by her voice that she was surprised about the books being given to her
and was very sorry to hear about it; moreso because the books went up in the fire along with everything else.

for Neesey and Haunted ....
I know what you mean about replacing the books is an obsession. I am the same way. I think it is taking me longer because I am very fussy about the
condition of the books and even the book jackets. There are a few used book stores here and one in particular is very good. They have numerous copies
of many of the titles. They charge $8.00 each for them, so far. I stop in there often to see what they have. But I have had some good luck too on
websites that buy and sell; one is local which saves on postage which is really high these days. The two books I bought from a lady in Ontario cost
double because of the postage; but they are Salem's Lot and Carrie so I did go through with getting them.
Happy hunting (for books)! We should have some good stories to tell along the way trying to get our collections together.
