Hello Ghost, Flake, and Spidey.

Ghost, I know I'm going to gather a lot of flack for saying this, but The Dark Tower series disappointed me, I bought the first few books and started to read them and I just found myself really sort of turned off by one of the characters. I also find The Dark Tower series way too sprawling and self indulgent or " fan indulgent. " I like the Gunslinger himself, and the Wastelands and the concept, but the black wheelchair lady's personality was really nails on a chalkboard for me. I found myself grimacing each time I came to her dialogue.

No flack at all ma'am. It's an interesting point you make. Welcome aboard.

I know it's everyone epic favorite, but for some reason it's truly the only one I dislike. I also disliked the ending to The Dome, but thought that overall the book it's self was good. I guess it's a win some lose some kind of situation we can't all like every book.

:)

Hi there, my name is Van Blaricum. I have been reading novels by Stephen King since I stole off with my mother's copy of " It " in 1990. The rest of my youth was spent trying to make off with the rest of her books, and then finally one day I had even found and read all SK books that she didn't have. I really like all the old short stories, and my fav novels are The Stand and It. I like Duma Key so far as the new ones go, as well as the one with the Date for a title, re: Time Travel.

I also like to buy whenever I see them on the shelf, dvd's of every Stephen King movie. I used to cut class in junior high to stay home and watch the IT t.v. miniseries.

No matter how many times I have moved or where I have gone to, I have always taken my SK collection with me, some of the books I've had twenty years. Everything else is expendable! When I'm bored I read the same SK books over and over again, there's always something new in them.

Anyways, just checkin' in. I'm an experienced message board user and used to moderate one, so I know the rules on how to behave (mostly) :)

I'm pleased to be reading and meeting you all.
Good day.
Welcome Van Blaricum
I'm from Winterpeg, Manisnowba myself so Minnesnowda is not too far south of me!

Hi Lily! In all of my travels across the contiguous US, I must say that Nashville is my FAVORITE city. I hope to retire there some day. I love love love it!!!

I gotta say, you got me for at least two minutes, with the wood chipper bit, I started to get confused as to weather it was a SKMB inside joke then all it reminded me of was " that one movie where the guy woodchips the other guy " then I was mystified as to why you would mention Fargo, until it all of a sudden hit me... Uff-DUH!

Im not from MN I just live here, the people here are all crazy from being too cold.

Damocles Hello! It is as well my first day, but every day is a first day sometimes so greetings!

Neesy, Hi! I have done a lot of reading up on your home and always say I intend to visit. One day!! The idea that it is further north makes me think it's a lot colder too...Manisnowba! This is truly a popsicle stand.

Return greetings, Claire and Haunted!

So I have a little curiosity about me. Seeing as SK is a very prolific writer and has been for years, selling so many copies of books and appearing in his films, does this website tend to attract a few inappropriate super fans? I remember a book I bought a few years back, " Lisey's Story? " and then it occurred to me a website like this could attract the wrong kind of attention from certain people. Are the people here generally safe to chat with or should I BOLO?

Don't tell anyone I said this but... My crime is more serious than yours. I couldn't read past The Gunslinger because I didn't like Roland. A friend told me he becomes a good guy. I responded, I ain't buying it, I didn't buy the idea that Darth Vader became a good guy either.

I agree with you about UTD. I absolutely loved the story but the ending seemed to be slapped on as if the publisher told SK that 1,000+ pages was long enough and he needed to end the story. I'm a big fan of UTD the TV Series. I'm real curious to see what kind of ending the series writers come up with :)

I must reeeally be slow because I thought at heart that Roland was a good guy. Shows how much I know. Tehe.

Re: The Dome: I don't know how to cover my words with the little spoiler button so as to not ruin the story for new readers so I will just be pointedly vague...When we got to the end part where it is finally revealed who/what is on the other side of the Dome, I remember being stupified and thinking " That's it? This reeks of God From a Machine!! " And you know, it wasn't what was revealed, so much as how that part was not further developed ( to my knowledge ).

I just moved and when I was unpacking I found Dr. Sleep. I realised that even though I enjoyed it when I was reading it, I still stopped picking it back up after the 2/3 point. I've yet to finish it. Although decent, I wasn't quite gripped by it. I think just reading about bad things happening to small children can be somewhat too much for me, even when fictitious.

Nice chattin' with ya, good day.

I read the original edition of The Gunslinger. Maybe Roland is nicer in the revised edition :)

Most of the boards about UTD are in the archives so its not talked about much anymore :( I think most newbies to the SKMB are reluctant to create new threads but if you create a UTD thread (or any thread), I'm sure people will come :)

If you want to read some of the old posts, you can access the archives here StephenKing.com Message Board

I don't think I remember enough about anything anymore to create threads. I have a memory problem and I am using my collection of SK books to get a baseline of who I am and what I remember, as well as using this web site as an exercise to work on engaging myself with some subject I find interesting enough to practice remembering.

Unpacking my books for example, I looked at Rose Madder, Blaze, and Insomnia, and I couldnt remember anything about them although I have read them, save for that someone in Insomnia played chess and couldn't sleep.

Also, I always would worry I'm posting on something that has already been posted on, talked to death etc.

And now I have said too much! Cheers.
