Hi, I'm Lisa. 50, live in NYC, been a King fan since 1979 when I read "Salem's Lot", which to this day is my favorite King novel.

I've gotten bad at keeping up with his recent works in about the past 10 years or so. I think the last new thing I read was "Desperation." However, after reading these forums the past day or so, I just downloaded "Cell" to my Nook, so I'll be starting that soon. My bad habits, King-wise, are re-reading my favorites over and over again. You honestly don't want to know how many times I've re-read "Salem's Lot", "The Stand", "Bag of Bones", "Rose Madder" (which I'm wrapping up again now. I think I'm one of the few who really love that book), and "Night Shift". I tend to live in the past, King-wise!

Glad to be here, looking forward to talking about SK with all of you!

    Thank you both so much!

That's my baby girl, Violet - she'll be a year old next month (yes, yes, I'm one of those people who know their cat's birthday!).

Welcome Lisa, and it is quite all right. Due to struggling with work, and let alone keep my wages, I too have fallen behind in the new books. Cell was pretty decent. Different than his usual in my view. I have worn out copies of Gunslinger and Wizard and Glass. Recently, my Dark Tower book started falling apart so I guess that one is added now. *chuckles* Enjoy the board.

You'd get along beautifully with my boyfriend, George. He's the biggest "Dark Tower" and "Gunslinger" fan I know of!

That's very true! I hestitate sometimes with King, because - I think - it's because I have such a long love for him. I was 15 in 1979 the first time I ever read anything by him, which was "Salem's Lot". The last thing I read by him was "Desperation", and I've just found that a few of his books around that time didn't really resonate with me, you know? So I get nostalgic - I miss "old" King after some of his newer books didn't do a ton for me. But you are very correct in that I have to give the newer books a chance, because you never know when something new is going to strike a chord. I was smack in the middle of my "I miss old SK" phase when I decided to give "Bag of Bones" a chance, and I loved it! It's seriously right up there with my old favorites of his. Maybe I'll feel the same way about "Cell" - I'm about to start that too!

Thanks for the nice welcome, everyone!

Welcome :) I've been thinking about rereading Cell before the movie comes out but if the movie is too much different than the novel, it might be best if I don't lol. I loved Rose Madder :)

Welcome to the boards! Nothing wrong with re-reading! I have worn out 2 paperback copies of The Talisman myself, and re-read most everything of his I own now and then! But glad you are making time to catch up on his newer stuff. It's worth it!

P.S. I not only know my dog's birthday, but we celebrate it with special treats! =D

...his material has changed over the years as he has matured and his perspective has changed...but the quality stays first rate, even if I'm not as enthralled with some of it...
