Hey all, does Stephen King write horror anymore?

I was looking forward to the Bazaar of Bad Dreams, I've loved some of his earlier short story collections, but looking through the synopses of the stories in Bazaar, none of these seem to be horror. Many of them just seem like random stories about debate-ably interesting/uninteresting situations people get into.

Does King do horror anymore? If not, does anyone know of other author's with King's level of talent (or similar) who do write horror?

Horror is the least of the reasons I enjoy SK's writings.
I thoroughly enjoy SK's style of writing. I'm rather pleased that SK is multidimensional (as are we all, hopefully) and shares his views and perspective on other subjects as well as sharing his own inner creative self via horror.

Beauty... and horror... are, as they say, to be found in the eye (and mind) of the beholder.

read some of the synopses, and can't agree,I think there will be ample horror in there if one cares to look..is it Friday the 13th,hit you over the head obvious stuff, maybe not..if that is your bent, plenty of comic books and graphic novels out there, knock yourself out..

Welcome. We all have our own opinions and likes/dislikes and that's what makes this Board so great. Personally, I don't really care what Steve writes about as long as he keeps writing. I would like to see him do a total 'mainstream' novel without any kind/type of supernatural element to it. I think if he did, he just might win a Pulitzer......

Marsha has the secret gloop recipe, she has posted it before.

I think she even saw it, but did not taste.

Lunchtime Gloop. I've never seen him make it but can imagine it and have to confess, it doesn't sound that bad to me but I like what we call American Chop Suey. I don't use canned spaghetti when I make it, though.

If you mean physical, outside-of-humanity monsters... I'm sure we'll see more of those. My sense, though, is that as Mr. King has aged it's people who scare the hell out of him more and more, and I empathize completely (likely because I'm getting older, too--lol). People are the scariest beasts there ever were or ever will be. No vampire/alien/bug/werewolf/ghost/demon/whatever-you-care-to-name can bring more terror to my heart than people and the horrors we wreak upon each other. Not a single thing holds a candle to that. And it gets harder each year to support the idea that we can rise above our self-centered nature in any more than a sporadic way. Just my opinion, of course :)

Welcome

Welcome. If you by horror mean a kind of Godzilla horror.... no, that he does not do much but the real horror, the one that makes you afraid is the one inside the human heart. And there is no better author to describe it than King. Full Dark, no Stars was pretty horrific to me. Some of his darkest stories in there. Revival.
But if you want a balloon just follow me and i'll give one....
