Hi everyone my name is Mel. I like to read supernatural books. I have a few of them. I have just joined a local horror group that wants to read Stephen Kings books in order but they are not sure. Any books they should start with or steer clear of?

I like legal fiction too, medical fiction and my favorite supernatural book series is Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz. What Stephen King books are Similar? I read the Dead Zone and loved it! If you could help me with some titles to start with of less gore books of his and more supernatural. I am animal fan so I don't want to read Pet Cemetery.

I liked the movie the Dead Zone or the Series. I liked the movies Shawshank Redemption, Stand by Me and the Langoliers.

What about 11/22/63? It is about time travel, so sort of Sci-Fi in its own way

Welcome to the SKMB novelwriter - nice puppy on your avatar :dog:

For the choices you give above, I might go with The Dead Zone.

Welcome to the SKMB!

I vote for The Dead Zone, too, to start your reading. Being an animal lover shouldn't prevent you from reading Pet Sematary (rarely are animals depicted being hurt in any way in any of his books). Other members here are better equipped to tell you about the following, in which I attempt to respond to one of your questions: There are a number of characters who make more than one appearance in Stephen King books and/or are mentioned in more than one. The Shining is a must-read, I would say, and now has its sequel, Doctor Sleep. Mr. Mercedes will be one in a trilogy; the latter two haven't been published yet. The Dark Tower series, eight novels considered to be Stephen King's magnum opus, includes not only the same protagonists and certain antagonists, but makes mention of a number of existing Stephen King characters from other books and stories. The Talisman, a favorite of Constant Readers (CRs; you will be one yourself soon). Black House is its sequel.

Welcome and good luck, and please keep us posted! Tell the members in your horror group about the SKMB! Make 'em join.

I just remembered - the Tommyknockers is quite Sci-Fi as well. Maybe your group would enjoy that one?
