Hi all, I'm a big fan of Mr King's work, and - as I am trying my hand at writing a novel - have just re-read 'On Writing'. It is even more enjoyable a read now as it was around ten years ago when I read it first and is both informative in terms of its advice to budding writers and in terms of insight into those stories and characters we all know and love. ('Love' is perhaps a strange word to use for some characters - but while I wouldn't want to spend a night with her, Annie Wilkes is such a high-impact character that 'love' works here in another way; who'd have thought she was originally going to murder Paul Sheldon and bind his book in his own skin!).
Stephen's books have been to me - and to many others - great companions throughout my teens and young adulthood. Throughout university and all through my twenties his books provided escapism of the most enjoyable kind and now, on the cusp of 30 I'm in the second chapter of my own first novel. I hope to have completed the first draft within a few months. I had no idea how challenging and exciting starting a novel could be, and I hope I can do it!
