Holly, Our last house was a two story that we painted ourselves. I think the idea of renting the scaffolding is perfect! Doing it slowly on a ladder took way too long. ( not to mention nerve wracking) Our current house needs new flooring. After years of kids and dog toenails, our laminate flooring is showing its age!

I inherited a Ranch-style house the basement of which for years has needed waterproofing, and I'm finally having that done. Once that work is complete I'll be ready to fix the basement up into a place in which I can spend some leisure time. My plans are still nebulous, yet are gradually taking shape. One thing I want to do is create a library including shelves built-into the walls. There's already a fireplace down there, which my dad had installed but which needs to be finished and approved for use. I figure I can have a nice den for reading, maybe have a dog curled up at my feet after he brings me the newspaper. I'll have to subscribe, though.

After that, I'm dreaming of trying to afford a hot tub in a deck off the basement door. My current plan is to do the basement remodeling myself, as well as building the hot tub deck. I've got rough carpentry experience, but the remodeling will be a learning curve. But I'm really looking forward to all of it. Except for the parts I'm probably going to not look forward to.

Oh me too - I so want wood floors. We'll get a big chunk of money set aside, but not have the time to do it, and then a big car repair comes along or a big medical bill. Looks like the job's in the clear for another year - so once his back is feeling better, we'll get started on the bathroom re-do. But the exterior painting and the windows have to be done this summer. We're looking janky.

That's exactly how we are. BH and his dad redid the basement bathroom a few years ago & did a great job, but FIL has since had a stroke and can't help this time. We already have the new vanity for upstairs, but floor needs redone, and I wanted tile instead of a tub surround. That's probably out now--I just want it done at this point (lol)

It took a long time for that back to heal! Weeks of PT and massages, finally getting better. So today we spent several hours fixing the fence. 2 sections had to be completely replaced, 2 had to have some boards replaced. We had a good time though. I love a productive day that doesn't involve me having to cook for anyone. Next up - painting the back of the house, and we have a leaky skylight that needs to be fixed. Walter Oobleck - any advice on that? I'm hoping we don't have to get on the roof and can fix this from inside the master bathroom with a ladder.

Resurrecting an old thread to share!

So totally not finished. He's building 2 separate Shaker style vanities, and we have to paint. Can't finish the floor until the vanity is out. Re-doing the shower too. Ha: notice the flashlight at the hole in the floor. Just monitoring for leaks before he seals it up with tile. Got to finish the grout. Baby steps. There used to be carpet and a horrid large smelly jacuzzi tub there, with a carpeted step even. I didn't have time to get a "before". I came home one day and found the Ogre wearing goggles and wielding a sledge hammer, tub demolished, carpet gone. Apparently they put those large tubs in place before they frame the walls, so there's no other way to get them out. I'm making too big a deal about this, but I'm so excited. We've been planning this for years.

Oh drat - my photo's not working! I'll go to photobucket and see what I can do!
