Did some work this past winter and the tenant at the rental where I made some repairs had been making these portable...heater/camp stoves. What he did was take several aluminum cans, cut about an inch inch and a half off the bottom. I think he placed two bottoms together somehow, one inside the other. Or not...sorry. He'd take another bottom and place that over those with the bottom of this section facing up. In this piece he drilled a variety number of holes--he was making more than one. He'd use...Heet? I think it was as fuel and he said when you first fired one up, it would...do something. I'm not very helpful, am I? Say it would burn fast for a second or ten, and then would begin to provide uniform flame/heat through the various holes drilled around the rim of the inverted bottom. I think manufacturers make a product like this...for hiking/camping...the weight of which adds to that carried on your back. His models are lightweight compared to the manufactured models. It's a thought, anyway. And how badly can you be burned?
