No, I just came upon it as I was going through my Watched Threads and realized there've been times when a member starts a thread which seems familiar, as if one like it already exists, yet finding the earlier thread to merge is difficult.

We have the same problem which is why this continues on occasion. Sometimes it's just not worth the time it would take us to find the old one and then merge it especially when we have a queue with a lot of posts waiting to be moderated.
