How do I put a signature under my messages?

I guess I'm asking about a signature on my posts as well as personal messages. I wasn't sure how to word it.
Dana Jean tried to help me with this last night, but it didn't work. I thought I was adding a signature, but I only updated my status. I can't figure out how to do it. Am I overlooking something obvious?

You cannot set a signature until you become an unmoderated member. Basically, you need to participate on the board a bit longer before you can set a signature.

Sorry Beaty, I forgot about this aspect of it. You have been around forever, the fact you had to start over didn't even dawn on me.
