I'm sorry about your back Sig, but the story was hilarious I have to say...lol. I've never thrown out my back, but if I did, I would very much like to do in a way like that where you could at least laugh about it later.:)

I have never thrown my back out. But I do have quite a bit of lower back tenderness, if not outright pain. Found out with the birth of baby #3, when they were giving me the epidural (she was supposed to be the last baby, so I opted, for the first time, for pain relief!) that my lower spine is slightly curved.

The epidural went without incident, then a year later, with surprise! You weren't done having babies after all! Baby #4, the curvature had changed enough that the anesthesiologist tried 4 times to place the epidural. (Clearly, it was a huge relief the last time around, and I don't know why every woman doesn't do it!)

They were so concerned about sticking me that many times, the next morning, the head of the anesthsia dept visited me in my room and opened by saying, "So here is the victim." I was completely confused and thought they had me mixed up with some other patient, and they were going to try to take me for some kind of surgery. I said, "No, no! I only had a baby!" He laughed. Apparently they were thinking my head would be ready to split from a migraine from all the epidural tries. (Which, by the way, didn't help much with the pain this time. Never did get it placed well enough to be efficient.) Anyway, long story short, (too late!) he was just checking on me for potential side effects. Never had any, though.

That curvature does cause me some pain, but so far, has not locked up on me.

Shudder to that story, CAT.

When I go to the doctor's office they are always amazed at the yellow streak running up my back. I'm such a chicken......LOL

Well, you're not completely alone...why do you think I waited until baby #3 to try it? I just thought it would be completely impossible to hold completely still while in labor so someone could stick a needle into my spine. And, I knew what it looked like, having watched my sister get hers when my nephew was born. ;-D

I've got to hand it to you women folk. My wife had them when she was in labor for our two. They worked for her for the most part I guess, but our kids refused to come out!! My daughter was six weeks early and our son was 10 days late. Both labors went on for well over (I've forgotten the exact time for each) what either of us were expecting (like how I got that word in there?...LOL). Both births ended up in C-Sections. My son's because his head was to big to push out. Not because there was a problem, but because he was 9lbs 10ounces at birth....LOL. He actually had a groove in his forehead from trying to get out of there......

Like I said I've got to hand it to you ladies.........:applause:

In the effort to do something about slowing down the world population growth, perhaps we ladies should start a labor horrors thread. I've got a couple. Seriously, though, I'm amazed women have more than one child after that sort of experience. There must be some sort of amnesia chemical that's released into our systems along with the endorphins immediately following childbirth. ;-D

Never had these backinjuries thank god! But i do tend to have a little pain in my lower back sometimes. Especially after Floorball playing. But in the long run i think me playing floorball and badminton for 30 years now has saved me from worse backproblems. But on the other hand i broke my leg just above the ankle a few years back playing floorball. That really hurt. And i could do nothing but lie on that cold floor and wait for the ambulance.

The eoisiotomy alone is a horror. Those dahm stitches hurt, itch and I was sure I was gonna pop mine. (I told the story where my bestest friend popped her stitches and the wall between front and back tore.)

Completely true. I tried having my first without drugs (they ended up having to give me a shot of Demerol in my back to get 'er done--too much pain to relax enough to let the baby out--lol). Second baby I had plans for an epidural, but the nurse screwed up and didn't call the anesthesiologist until too late. My calves were numb for the birth (not really the problem). I remembered what was coming right as the pains got bad--it was really like selective amnesia up to that point. I told my mom I'd changed my mind (and probably cursed my husband--don't remember that part). Funnily enough, it was too late.
