I plug mine into a USB port on the computer and kinda wing it from there. Seems like if I want to move something, say a photo, I click on the photo and then "save" and I'm asked to "what" and I look for the thing that says something. I doesn't say "memory stick" I know that much. It says something else. They can't make it simple, can they? Anyway, I eventually figure out what is meant for memory stick, process of elimination...not "my computer"...not this, not that, must be this last thing listed here...save it to there. Never find it again. But it's saved, by golly, so we're good to go.

It says..."something drive" maybe? "Outside source"? Naw, that doesn't sound right. "Thingy D" that has a ring to it...close, I'm thinkin'.

When I am saving photos to my laptop I always choose to save it to my desktop, so I can find it right away. (I just create folders on the desktop to move them to afterwards)

Do you mean prompts come on the screen to walk you through it (so to speak)?
Most of the time, when I plug it into the usb port, I get a notification pop up that the computer recognizes the flash drive.
When I copy files, I open the file folder, select the files I want to copy, click "save to" and select the flash drive.
There are a million ways to skin a cat....or in this case, back up files.....this one works for me.

Good luck!

Only problem with doing that is that there's a finite amount of space allotted for the desktop in a computer's memory. I stash mine in pictures until there's roughly enough to burn to a disc. Then that's where I keep 'em.

Did you know that over here, some people call USB sticks Dongles.

Despite my age, that still amuses me. Which is tough because I work with computers.

It still cracks me up, too......
When I was co-owner of the screen printing and embroidery shop, one of my employees told me that he had lost his dongle.......
after I spewed iced tea all over him, he explained that was the proper name for what I called the security device.

Were you successful? If not I know a few things about mapping and formatting, otherwise you should just be able to plug it into your usb slot and then copy the files to it (you may need to make more than 1 trip depending on the size of your external drive and how much data you have).
