Queen Anne cherries are better, IMHO. But more expensive. In cherry season, I keep a bowl of either one on the counter for walk-by grabs. I also have an apple every night for my midnight snack. I've become and apple snob but I'll spare everyone my ramblings on that! :D

We grow lots of stuff in Florida but not apples or cherries. Who knows how old the apples are I buy at the store? My dad goes up to Ohio to see my uncle and he gets me apples when he's there at the right time. They are so much better than what I get in the grocery store around here.

We had somewhere between 500 and 1,000 trick or treaters based on the amount of candy we went through (I had to make TWO runs for extra candy!). It turns out, we live a block down the way from this Harry Potter house that was featured all over the internet so we were getting all of the spillover. We also had some pretty rad decorations ourselves with our Pet Sematary. Thousands of trick or treaters converge on epic Harry Potter Diagon Alley in Seattle driveway – GeekWire
Another Western Washingtonian!! We should have a get-together someday for all of us Washintonian's on here.

I miss those type fruits. As a kid, the landlady had a cheery tree and there was fresh pickings all season.
Many years ago I had a crab apple tree that did well in FL. Good for tart pies. That freeze year did in my tangerines, and apple tree.

You know, they really do get the apples to the store very quickly now. One of my favorite varieties comes from New Zealand and is always fresh and yummy when I buy it. It's a bit more than the local -- well, except for those Honeycrisp! -- and the NZ ones keep well, too. Try an Envy or a Koru apple if you spot one of those in the store. Trust me. ;DD

...we were in Amish Country this past Saturday and had to make a special stop at Troyer’s Market and pick up a half peck of Honeycrisp for Tracy...quality is good and way less expensive than here in donkey walkingville....

There is an area here in Spokane that is devoted to farming and they have all the fresh fruits and veggies but the prices for Honeycrisp never seems to be low. Sometimes I can get them cheaper at a local grocery store and it saves me driving a half hour out of my way to boot. There is also an amazing huge produce market on the way to Seattle where I stop when I'm going that way and pick up a case of those apples.
