...you were ripped off....don't mean to be the bearer of bad news, but that's a swindle....I would get with the Better Business Bureau and also take your bill and services rendered to an attorney....he saw you comin' from a mile away....

I hate to say it, n_n, but I think the same. I had to have a sensor replaced two years ago and it was MUCH less--under $100.

not_nadine - do the repair shops still have to have a certified inspection repair station sticker? If so, report to state inspection agency. Is your bill itemized? Break down of what parts, cost, labor? You can ck with dealership on the cost of the parts.

Right. What happened to personal ethics on a job well done. On helping someone out. On being fair? I live in some pie in the sky fantasy in my head about people. I struggle with being unbelievably jaded, to being unbelievably naive and optimistic.

I think it's called menopause.

....I would add to not only check with the dealerships, but also local and chain parts shops....most of the time they will be cheaper than the overblown costs at a dealer.....

....not at all sweets.....car dealers and repair shops have developed an unsavory reputation due to pond scum suckers.....I count several grease monkeys as good friends, because not only are they great folks but do quality and honest work....but I too have been taken before, took some time to develop savvy-and to learn to listen to my old man who educated me on pitfalls.....

No, it was not a state inspection place. I did get itemized (kinda) It was hard to understand them. They did not speak English well. Lot of yelling that I did not follow.

This State inspection is free when I can take it. Never heard of that. ok. good. They also pump your gas here - it's the law, crazy, thought I should tip the guy or something first time I got gas. Felt guilty.


Part was 282.50 (hard to read)
Cable was 90.00 (my lifty gas tank lid opener broke)

Labor 200.00
Gas/oil/grease? 93.00

Total parts - 385.00
Tax 42.50

And told I have to drive it at least 40 miles till I can get it inspected.

I did not add all that up, but 649.45

You might think a man would be best in this situation, but my Ogre - pft! Leave the dickering to me please. Someone tells him $650, he'll get all offended like they think he doesn't have that much. Will offer to pay $800. No, I'm joking. But I'm the mean one. It took me a while to find a good trustworthy mechanic. I had one years ago and he grew up and moved off to have babies and such. The guy I've got now - good as gold. But I went through some stinkers to get there. You'll be all legal in 40 miles! Drive to the country and get us some good tomatoes.

More frustrated than angry, but here goes.
Kiddo goes to "camp" every July. It's only 4 mornings a week but it's mostly fun activities and it gives him a break from us (and vice versa).
This year it starts Tuesday. Every year the driver waits until the last minute to call with pick up times (always a different driver). I've contacted the camp teacher, who contacted the supervisor, so they are aware of this, but it drives me nuts that I probably won't know until Monday night what time I have to get kiddo up on Tuesday.
