Not angry but very, very sad.

My local bookstore, Hastings (part of a chain, kind of a one stop shop entertainment place, books, movies, music, video games) declared bankruptcy a month or so ago.

Just found out all stores are to be liquidated by October 31.

:big_tears:

Now I will have to buy all my SK books (and all books) through Amazon. No more special trips to pick out my copy.

What a #$@**& year this has been.
The world has moved on but not always in a good way. (((Cat)))

Bummer about Hastings. :( (Never was a fan of that chain, but still, sucks to see the 'smaller guys' getting devoured on a daily basis, sigh.)

What about Half Price Books, none in the area? GoodWills, used book stores, yard sales, major retailers?

Doesn't this very site have some sort of book exchange? (I vaguely remember starting a thread a while back....)
Regarding King's stuff, I've got doubles (triples?) of nearly everything he's done and I'd be glad to help, if need be. :)

That is very sweet of you to offer. My SK collection is complete, I was just mourning the loss of my new book day ritual, going forward. :)

More people will be losing their jobs, which we have had far too much of this year here. The uncertainty and stress is just almost too much.

No other bookstores here. We have a Value Villa, which I think is similar to the Value Villages a lot of people here post about great finds at, but the book selection is teeny and overpriced, IMO. And there is Wal-mart and Kmart, but again, book selections are small. (I think KMart is struggling mightily to stay afloat as well.) They carry mostly paperback romances and westerns.

Will have to travel 2-3 hours away in the future, if I want to go to an actual bookstore.

...it's slow, but I always get the new releases-join the stephenkinglibrary.com...it doesn't equal picking your own copy up at a brick & mortar store, but at least you'll have them.....and thriftbooks.com is a good spot for all manner of books, and in decent condition for even more decent prices....

I just had a brand new pair of underwear sucked up into the car wash vacuum! They were really nice Victoria Secret ones too. Of course, this is a car wash that could suck the chrome off a car, and it's a big bank of them, so all that goes into one central area. So, for me to ask them to stop the machine so I could retrieve my underwear, that's shutting down about 30 cars vacuuming!

And yes, I always travel with an extra set of clothing. I'm like Nancy Drew that way.

A girl always has to be prepared for an unexpected tryst. You never knew when you might meet a handsome Frenchman while you're lost trying to deliver books for a fundraiser sale for your son's school or something like that. You know, like Diane Lane in that movie.

This I can understand, but WHY were the undies anywhere near the vacuum?? Sorry, but I'm not buying this as the whole story, Deej!
I jsut had jeans, shirt and underwear in my back seat. I vaccum my seats and thought I had moved those things far enough away. Caught the corner of the undies and boom! gone!

Well, this was last week but the board was closed and I couldn't post.

Almost got into a fist-fight with some a**hat in the Cheesecake Factory parking lot over a parking spot. Had SwiftMom with me as we were going to a family dinner with my niece before she heads off to college. Guy claimed I snarked his parking spot. Which I didn't. He was nowhere near the spot when I pulled in. Anyway, I was going to be the bigger man and give him the spot until he opened his mouth and started being insulting. Dude was an uber-tool and said some really nasty things. Normally, people like that don't trigger that type of response from me but this a**hole really set me off. My inner smart-a** came forward and I gave him some insults back. He was posturing for his GF who was embarrassed to tears and was trying to get him shut up and drive away. My Mom was trying to get me to walk away as well but for some reason I blew a fuse and was just seeing red. It quickly devolved from there and we were screaming at each other in the middle of the parking lot. At the time I was hoping he actually got out of the car because I really wanted to pop him one.

Reflecting back on it, I'm glad the guy's girlfriend got him to move along. It would have been a nasty scene and someone would have ended up getting hurt. It probably also would have ended with me going to jail for brawling.
