I have some neighbors, catty-cornered from me who are awful. About 2 months ago, they started piling stuff in the driveway and yard. Furniture, mattresses, trash bags full of who knows what. It has all remained in the yard. It has been rained on, snowed on, it's junk.

There were 2 small boys living there, but I haven't seen them in a long time. I am pretty sure they have been removed by authorities. There are always many cars pulling up and staying a few minutes and leaving. They are forever out in the front yard, yelling and screaming at each other, and I cannot even tell you how many times the police have been over there.

Yesterday, I was coming home from doing some errands when 2 police cars came screaming up the street, lights blaring. One pulled up in front of this house, and one turned around real quick and went back to the end of the street, where for some reason, these people's vehicle was parked. They were there a long time. And I saw them put the woman into the back of the police car, but do not know for sure if they arrested her for something.

Just about a half hour ago, they were at it again! Out in the front yard, the man starting and shutting off his incredibly LOUD pickup, revving it up when she was screaming, and then him screaming back at her. How stupid do you have to be to do this over and over again?

My neighborhood is a nice neighborhood. Other than these people, it is a pretty quiet street. I am really getting tired of seeing their crap in the front yard and hearing their screaming matches all the time. But, what to do about it? The police are aware of the mess in their yard and all the disturbances, they have been there twice in the last few days, countless times over the last 6 or so months, but apparently cannot do anything about it? Ugh. I am really sick of it.

Cat- do you have a county/ city/ township code about trash- property upkeep? Many place in Fl do and you can report unsightly trash, unmowed(hmmm) property. What they are doing is lowering your property value and sense of safety. Just on my road, one neighbors went around and put notes in mailboxes/ gates informing people their right of ways needed to be kept mowed. It became a joke, as this couple had a very expensive car and didn;t want to drive on the muddy road- rather on the right of ways!

Yes, we do! Which is why I can't understand why they are getting away with it. If it is stuff they don't want, they could haul it away, they have the vehicle to do it. And if it's stuff they DO want, why has it been left outside for months for the elements to ruin. I shudder to think what the inside of that place looks like. I know several other people have made formal complaints, phone calls, we have, I just don't understand why something isn't being done.

PA unemployment has everything they asked for from me. I was approved and told to file biweekly claim today. I log in and account says inactive.
Now I cant file today. I am afraid to reopen the claim and have to go thru this whole process again and still not have money for rent.
I cant call them until tomorrow, which means I missed the filing date.

arrrrgh. Tried to do it by phone, and the recording says that I cant file until the 5th. well today is the 5th, Mr. recording voice.

I was out of work for a long time. Dealing with those automated systems, loops, and hang-ups can drive a saint to swear like a sailor (I was one (sailor, definitely not a saint), so I know). I would keep a detailed record of the date, time, and the person(s) you speak to. This will help you compose your statements when you call. Usually, it is like dealing with the cable or telephone company. If you happen to get someone who knows what they're doing, the problem can be resolved quickly. If you get someone who just knows barely enough to read a script on their computer, you will be spinning your wheels. I tried to call right before the offices open and keep trying. It can be maddening, and the incompetence of some of the people working at large organizations, public and private, is incredible. Don’t let them wear you down.

I have had this happen several times where I have lived (different places). I believe the authorities are letting them gather enough rope to hang themselves with, and/or watching and trying to build a case against their wholesale (drug) suppliers, since they seem to be dealers. In the meantime, avoid contact with them, so they won't come back for retribution against you.
The drug culture is hard for a straight to understand. They are headed for a collapse, so you should probably just stay out of the way and let it happen. Don't let them drag you down with them.:typing:

Do they rent or own? It's always easier to get bad renters out of the neighborhood, the owner doesn't want to have to deal with the aftermath. Good luck to you, sounds horrible.

Thanks. I was able to get through today and file for the past 2 weeks. They have the prior 2 weeks as well. The guy sent an email while I was on the phone to the examiners to state that dr notes were sent. Hopefully this will be taken care of before rent is due. I owe people money. This is a mess.

Keep calling. Sometimes that's the only way to get city offices to respond (if only to shut you up). Domestic disputes are difficult for cops if there's no physical violence involved and neither party wants to press charges against the other. Not sure in your area, but here they can't jail someone for noise (unless they get shirty with the cops)--it's a ticket offense. Be the squeaky wheel (and encourage the other neighbors to join you) and eventually they'll hang themselves (not literally!).

I am not sure, but I think they rent.

That is exactly what my husband said. He was out hunting during Saturday's incident, he got a little irritated at me for not calling. The stuff stacked in the yard is one thing, but it is all the yelling and screaming that is really difficult to handle. I go back and forth between just wishing they would leave and feeling very sorry for them...what a miserable existence they must have, they cannot be happy people, they just seem to not care about anything.

But mostly I wish they would leave. The majority of families on the street have children, and the amount of outdoor activity has gone down, my kids included.

They were quiet the rest of the weekend though.

Have you talked to other neighbors? Knowing that it is a group of people upset about the yard conditions might help motivate the authorities, and possibly the owner if they are renting, to take action.

Yes, we have talked with a few of them. They have called authorities a few times as well.

?? This sentence has me especially worried. ??

?? Keep calling and talk to your neighbors. ??

Yep, it worries us too. Last week when the cops were there, they had a K-9 with them but never took him in the house. So I don't know if they were using him as a kind of "we know what you're doing" kind of warning or if it was just a coincidence that that particular cop who responded that day had the dog with him.

We will keep calling. I keep the door locked when I'm here alone. They have never bothered anyone, that I know of, other than the public displays. But I am wary of them.
