I have some neighbors, catty-cornered from me who are awful. About 2 months ago, they started piling stuff in the driveway and yard. Furniture, mattresses, trash bags full of who knows what. It has all remained in the yard. It has been rained on, snowed on, it's junk.

There were 2 small boys living there, but I haven't seen them in a long time. I am pretty sure they have been removed by authorities. There are always many cars pulling up and staying a few minutes and leaving. They are forever out in the front yard, yelling and screaming at each other, and I cannot even tell you how many times the police have been over there.

Yesterday, I was coming home from doing some errands when 2 police cars came screaming up the street, lights blaring. One pulled up in front of this house, and one turned around real quick and went back to the end of the street, where for some reason, these people's vehicle was parked. They were there a long time. And I saw them put the woman into the back of the police car, but do not know for sure if they arrested her for something.

Just about a half hour ago, they were at it again! Out in the front yard, the man starting and shutting off his incredibly LOUD pickup, revving it up when she was screaming, and then him screaming back at her. How stupid do you have to be to do this over and over again?

My neighborhood is a nice neighborhood. Other than these people, it is a pretty quiet street. I am really getting tired of seeing their crap in the front yard and hearing their screaming matches all the time. But, what to do about it? The police are aware of the mess in their yard and all the disturbances, they have been there twice in the last few days, countless times over the last 6 or so months, but apparently cannot do anything about it? Ugh. I am really sick of it.
I wish you luck with Jed and all his kin.

I LOVED it when MY daughter was 11. 12 was the beginning of the end, as I mostly jokingly call it. She started getting in big heaps of trouble and when we finally got that under control something truly terrible happened and she went back to getting in trouble except this time I was alone in doling out the consequences - and felt kind of terrible doing so actually but I couldn't let her go to her junior year in high school wearing a skirt that looked like it mostly WASN'T there. The only thing less there would have been a g-string. She thought I was overreacting and the other things 16 year olds think but she didn't wear it out of the house.

That made me giggle a little. Thank you!

Cat, I am curious what these people look like....

Well, I guess the nicest way to put it is, they don't really look like they take much more pride in their personal appearance than they do in the yard. Or the impression they make, standing outside yelling at each other.

I have had this happen several times where I have lived (different places). I believe the authorities are letting them gather enough rope to hang themselves with, and/or watching and trying to build a case against their wholesale (drug) suppliers, since they seem to be dealers. In the meantime, avoid contact with them, so they won't come back for retribution against you.
The drug culture is hard for a straight to understand. They are headed for a collapse, so you should probably just stay out of the way and let it happen. Don't let them drag you down with them.:typing:

cat in a bag That's the only reason I could think of as to why your neighborhood integrity office is ignoring them too. I don't understand why they are are calling attention to themselves with all the junk in the yard though unless they're crack-heads themselves. One of our neighbors used the ruse of weekly garage sales to explain all their visitors who never stayed long.

e-mail is more difficult to ignore than telephone calls since there's a record of it. Maybe you could try emailing the authorities.

actually, after thinking about this further, I ignored our neighborhood integrity office's request to paint our garage doorframe for months because it was winter and I thought it was too cold to paint. I did paint it after getting a court summons lol... still had to go to court but the judge dismissed it. If I hadn't painted it, the city would have hired someone to paint it and charged me big money.

Maybe they are just a couple with a violent relationship (causing visits from the police) and one of them threw the other's belongings out in the yard. Maybe your city will hire someone to pick up the trash after a specified time and charge the homeowner.

I would have ignored that, too. ;-D I have been guilty of ignoring those types of letters myself. My Explorer, which we just recently got rid of, hadn't run for 4 years. So when it came time to renew my tags for my plates, I didn't do it because I wasn't driving it. It was in our driveway, and you wouldn't know it wasn't running by looking at it, it was in great cosmetic shape. But I got a letter calling it an eyesore since it didn't have current tags. Sitting on the street, I maybe could have understood that. But it was in our driveway, on our property. So I had to keep current tags on it, which also meant I had to keep insurance on it, because you have to show proof of insurance when renewing tags. That is a stupid ordinance. (In my opinion. ;-D)

But, if my Explorer, which looked like a perfectly good, running vehicle, even if it wasn't, was considered an "eyesore", what is all the crap in their yard? They probably are ignoring letters, too. But I think trash in the yard is definitely worse than having out of date tags. They can't even pull all the way into their driveway, for all the stuff!

A thought, Tina-- could the trash be considered a health issue? If so maybe a report to the health dept. might bring action?

Rather than the police, has anyone in the neighborhood been filing complaints with your local code enforcement officer or taken it up with your city council? They usually have an opportunity during their meetings for people to bring up concerns or complaints even if it's not on their agenda. This could start to be a health concern, too, if it attracts rodents especially now that the weather is turning colder.

The running stream of 'just a few minutes' visitors is a pretty good tip off that they could be doing something illegal. We had this experience years ago with a neighbor (every two weeks they would have a steady stream of five minute visits, mostly by people in taxis--which was dumb, as they're not common here-- and work trucks/vans), and talked to the cops about it several times. I ended up being told by an officer friend that the cops knew all about the coke dealing but were watching but not arresting in hopes of catching a bigger fish.

They have 3 mattresses leaning up against the side of the garage. Those mattresses have to be drawing mice, I would think! Yuck. Let alone whatever is in all the bags. I don't think it is household garbage, though. I haven't noticed a smell. It's probably all crawling with mice.

I lost my VW Bug the same way :( I had it in the driveway but it didn't have current tags and it had caught on fire so it obviously wasn't working. Neighborhood Integrity knew I was trying to save up to fix my beloved Bug so they gave me a long time to save but a neighbor complained so they said I couldn't wait any longer, I had to get rid of it :( In hindsight, I should have just bought a car cover but I didn't think of it then :(

3 mattresses? might be a bedbug infestation :( How far can those boogers travel? Call the health department now.

Aww. I don't think, in my case, a car cover would have been enough, the ordinance says untagged vehicles have to be in an enclosed structure. I wasn't aware of the ordinance until getting the letter, so I just kept the tags current, though it irked me to have to do it. We should have gotten rid of it long ago, but it was always one of those things we meant to get to. I'm glad we had it to use as trade for the new car, though.

This is a nightmare. I emailed the State Rep last night about unemployment.
They actually looked into it and called me back. Seems that they had 2 different dates as to when I was able to work according to the Dr notes. Last doctor note was dated Sept 30 and they are going by that. That means I can not pay rent.

I called Dr's again and they are faxing another letter to the state rep saying that I was able to work the month of August. Called the other Dr and left a message asking that they re fax their letter to the Rep's office.

God know how long this is going to take. It should not be this hard

I am very grateful I have a job as a substitute teacher. (As many days as I can get.)

I am angry/bewildered because the students can curse me out without repercussion. Nary a day goes by when I am not called a b*tch, mother effer, and told I can go eff myself. In front of the entire class.

If I call Discipline (administrators whose job is to take the offending student out of class) they look at me and roll their eyes. "Good lord! You called me JUST because a student ragged you out."

Apparently, I am a bad Sub who has a thin skin and can't/won't take verbal abuse.

I no longer call Discipline when I get called out of my name, my mother and father are part of the verbal abuse and I am told to fornicate myself. And my parents.

*Deep breath*

I will keep subbing because there are always some students who want to learn and appreciate the opportunity when a sub, me, is willing to help them out.

Peace.

It is becoming a norm, Siggy. I was administrator assistant and teacher at a court ordered child center. Had 4-5year old walk in -- with a parent/ guardian each morning and smile and say-- "good morning MF". This was a norm. The world moved on!
