It's been a pleasant and eventful weekend. After I taped a friend's concert last Saturday, a friend who was with us asked me to tape her parents' memorial service on Friday. As we hoped, the rain held off for the graveside and outdoor family photos and fell later in the day. I believe my friend being a horse enthusiast held the service on Friday rather than Saturday so as not to miss the Preakness which was good because during the same time on Saturday it poured!

I was so happy! I didn't have to go out to water and could finally begin on the nine million indoor tasks awaiting. Did projects watching TV during the Preakness and then PBS ran two wonderful specials back to back featuring my favorite music and artists.

On Sunday my best friend Ruthie visited. Having learned on the Abebooks forums of the existence of a book called Wild Violets by Phyllis Green, about two young best friends named Ruthie and Cornelia, I naturally acquired copies for us both. Ruthie was puzzled till she opened it up! We found it was set near Lake Chautauqua and I got an encyclopedia (yes, an actual print book with a paper map) to look it up. We had both been to New York, not that part, but Ruthie had seen the Erie Canal. I quickly found Buffalo but could not see Albany till Ruthie pointed it out almost clear across the state! I was astounded! How many hundreds of times do you have to sing "Fifteen Miles on the Erie Canal" before being struck by that aha realization that it means fifteen miles a day, not that the canal itself is fifteen miles long? Learn something new every day, heh-heh. We both vowed to read the book as soon as possible so we could read it at the same time.

I gave Ruthie a house and garden tour. She was terribly impressed with the ground cover we always called Queen Anne's Lace but is actually Aegopodium podagraria, which really looks lovely in bloom next to the roses and said she could use some. Well, I had shown her the stuff and described what I'd been through for nine years trying to get it out of certain places, so she was not uninformed. I shoved a shovel and as many gallon flowerpots as I had at her and indicated where to start digging.

When her parents moved here many years ago, they brought with them the ancestral red peonies her grandfather had cultivated. When they moved I went over to take pictures and Ruthie's brother told me to scout around for any plant starts I wanted so I took some of these among others. They were more beautiful this year than ever, so much so I made them into my cover photo on Facebook. So Ruthie asked me for some and I dug out some of each color. I have the white ones which were here when we arrived and some pink ones also from old stock I'm not sure you can buy anymore. She lives over an hour away and had to rush home to get everything in the ground before dark. Since we had made inroads on the peonies, I also put together a container for my neighbor who had asked for starts and delivered it to her place. All time well spent.

I am happy to see you so happy CoriSCapnSkip ! Sounds like a great weekend- and you made some other people happy as well!

I'm happy to report the Ogre's pain - which has been at 5-7 for nearly a month - is at a 2 right now. They didn't sedate him for the injection and he said that was pretty awful,. I'm shocked he didn't at least get a bit of Valium in his iv. I would have special requested that. He was numb for a while, and then his pain jumped back up to 4 for a bit, now it's hanging at 2 for the past few hours. It could be a while before he knows if it worked. If we can get his pain down enough for him to get back to his physical therapy then he'll be on his way to recovery. That would be awesome.

Yay Canada!

Last week when I was at the band banquet with Evan, Scott had Ty and Ali in the backyard with bb guns. We have a big hill back there, so he thought it would be ok. They had a box set up right at the base of the hill, and that's what they were shooting.

Well, one bb went rogue and hit a neighbor's window. :facepalm_smiley: Which no one even realized until a few days later, not Scott, not the neighbor. But the neighbor had seen them out in the backyard and so knew exactly what happened when he noticed a tiny round hole in his window 2 days later. He was nice about it, though. He told Scott he had been watching them, and with that hill, should have been ok and he never thought twice about it, other than it was nice to see a dad out with his kids.

It was only the outside pane but quote was $1014. :cower: It is 1) a picture window and 2) one that had gas between the inside and outside panes, so can't just replace the outside pane or repair it and 3) will be a scaffold job.

Why does this make me happy? Our insurance guy was just here to take pictures and it is going to be completely covered. Phew!!! They all seemed to get a big kick out of the story at the insurance place.

(Maybe I should rethink my plan of leaving Scott in charge of all of the kids on the 7th. :p)

Whew! I'm so relieved for you!!

My son was shooting his bb gun and a bb hit the metal swing set and ricocheted and put a hole in the stained glass window above my bathtub. It's not a fancy stained glass - kind of typical around here for a 1990ish house. I just don't even care enough to get quote. Glad it wasn't a neighbor's window.

A customer said something mean about Stephen King a few weeks ago. I didn't say anything but I gave him the stink-eye. He told me he's been married for 20 years and knows when he's said something offensive. He recognized the scowl.
I asked him if he ever read his work. He said, well no. Then I asked him how he could have formed such a critical option? We had a bit of a debate... Long story shorter, I won.
So here's the happy part, he agreed to buy and read any Stephen King I recommended as an appeasement. I agreed only with the understanding that if he didn't like it, I could give him his money back and a coupon for his next purchase.
I gave him a short quiz concerning his interests. I recommend 11.22.63.
The customer came in again today, (he brought his wife) and wanted another King. I went Old School and sold him a copy of The Stand.
His wife was lovely, and said she wanted to meet the clerk who had shamed her husband into finally reading and enjoying fiction written by a popular author.
I love proving how good King is to literary snobs.

When he comes back, hand him The Dead Zone. He'll be hooked for life :)

Happy that little dog is going to be okay after being unintentionally stepped on by big dog. 75 lbs is a lot more than 8 lbs, so it's a blessing that only one little hip was hurt. The vet says he should be all better by the end of the weekend. Poor little guy. Big girl is getting periodically unsteady on her back legs. She has her yearly vet visit tomorrow.

Youtube this. You can probably fix this yourself with a good tutorial on how to do it. Lots of stained glass fix-its on youtube.

I am unreasonably happy today.
Many things have come together in my life to make it a nice place to be...so I guess there are reasons...
After many years of abject unhappiness, I am often surprised at how good I have felt the last few months.
