Well, one is already through, and the other has a year. We know there is some strong Native American on my dad's side, (I forget the tribe) but it has to be verified through a male descendent to be able to be legit. I mean, it could say I am so much percentage NA, but as far as the tribe recognizing it? They will only recognize if a male in the family can prove it. The only male left in my family to prove it is my brother. So, depending on how mine turns out, I may pay for a test for him as my cousin has small children who could definitely benefit college wise.
Just got my DNA results! Wayyy earlier than I expected, but my thought is they started processing before they actually told me they did as they had my test 2 weeks before I got any notice.

Anyway, some surprising things. I am just giggling with my results and will say more when I have time. But for now, just know,

I am 2% African!!!!!!! Mali to be exact.

As champ1966 's shirt says, we are all Africans. But, my DNA proves it! Again, if you know how dna passes down, you may or may not have lost that strand. I am thrilled my strand is still there.
Great timing. I ordered the book 'The Journey of Man' by Spencer Wells today. I saw the documentary based on it a few years ago. Definitely worth a watch, if you get chance Dana.

I am happy today because I was able to read like the old me. The last year, I've had trouble reading--focusing, concentrating, enjoying the act of reading. I've always read at least 30-40 books a year, usually having a fiction and nonfiction going at the same time. This year, I've finished ONE book. Very frustrating, as you can imagine.

Then, this week, I decided to watch two King movies with my son to try to get him interested...The Shawshank Redemption and Misery, both of which he loved. After we watched Misery, I showed him my old beat up novel which I last read about 12 years ago. When he went back to his video games, I opened the book up and began reading. I couldn't stop. I read and read and read and finished it in two days. I felt like a part of me, which had been missing
(a foot, perhaps? :) )
was reattached and back to normal.

So I guess I owe another thank you to Mr. King for helping me read like my old self again. Gerald's Game (my favorite King novel) is in my carry-on bag for my flight today! I'm happy about reading and happy about going to see someone I've not seen for a while! :) :) :)
