LOL. It’s been a cool experience for us too. We went out to eat last night. She doesn’t want to eat German foods because she can get that at home. She wants to try all American type foods, but sure isn’t afraid to let it be know if something doesn’t appeal to her. She’s never had turkey before, so she ordered a Thanksgiving type meal with turkey, filling, rice, salad and vegetables that she’s never tried before. Some she liked, some she didn’t. But the cranberry sauce had her completely stumped by its jelly look. She wondered if she should put in on top of some other part of the meal. I said "no, you eat it by itself." She didn’t care for it, and thought it was odd served cold. And wondered who would have though up the idea to have it with Turkey and filling in the first place, because it didn’t make any sense to her... and why in the world would we Americans make it a "tradition." "That's Crazy!"

I wrote a story with a lot of European readers a few years back. The story had a sequence where characters were discussing traditional American Thanksgiving foods. European readers were mystified by sweet potatoes with marshmallows on top--lol. Thought it sounded disgusting (I actually think they are disgusting, but they're traditional!).

They were shocked by an intoxicated driving sequence, too. Though the main character was thoroughly shamed by peers and nothing came of it, the thought of anyone driving under the influence caused an uproar. Legal and social consequences are much more severe there than here, apparently.

Completely agree about the marshmallows and yams/sweet potatoes dish--blech! Also not a fan of the green bean casserole with those canned onion things so have deprived my children of that particular Thanksgiving "tradition". Unless they've had it at a friend's house, I don't think they've ever eaten it. ;-D

Do you like coleslaw? If so, you might try cole slaw dressing on french fries-- only way my daughter will eat them.
Here in Pittsburgh there's a popular local sandwich joint called Primanti's that serves all their sandwiches with coleslaw and french fries--INSIDE the sandwich! It really hits the spot when you're starving after midnight!

Marsha, how can you not have green beans with crunchy onions on top?!

French Fried Onions. I could never stand Green Bean Casserole growing up, but later when Mom and Dad were living here I decided to make it for them, as they'd always liked it. So, I googled recipes, and experimented, and created some edible versions.

Just thinking about them makes me throw up in my mouth a little. ;-D There's no lack of other good food, though!

I do like the new tradition of making the turkeys (yes plural – one regular and one spicy) in those big deep fat fryers. And it frees up the oven for the ham. I told the exchange student we were having ham and turkey made that way for Easter. She seem perplexed on how one can fat fry a turkey. After I told her the detailed method for cooking the turkey, she had a look of shock in her eyes as though I was some sort of sadistic monster. "How could you do such a thing... The poor turkey!"

The woods are lovely dark and deep
Being 15, I was kinda leaning towards Stand By Me, as it is an excellent and compelling story. and a well done movie... and has that classic look of what people might view American kids back in that time. Then go to a more horror type movie next. The Green Mile would be good, but I don't know if I've got that on DVD.
Stand by Me, of course, of course!!

I make it from scratch for my kids & my mom--they like it. Canned soup is yucka and so are canned beans (lol)

I should have posted this yesterday but I forgot. Month ago I said that now the Ford is mine when I had paid off the loan. It wasn't correctly true.
Yesterday I got a paper that I had to fill and take to inspection office. They gave me new papers, where it says that I am the Fords officially owner.
It made me smile yesterday.

Haven't been here for a few days again... Been too busy at work, and too sad to have any kind of fun... Now I am finally happy! Really, really happy! At least, for a while. I went to the theater with my cousin today, and after the performance we met in person my favorite actor, he inspired me so much! He is one of the best people I know, really great, kind, wise and talented. I wish there were more men like him!

I am happy because our cat, "Pudz the Might Hunter", proudly brought home a Field Mouse and let it go in the porch. Fortunately I was able to distract her long enough with a cat treat, before blood was spilled, for the Mouse to make it's escape back into the garden unharmed.
So it was a Win/Win situation.;)
But I often wonder why no one markets a "Mouse" flavoured treat or cat food?:umm:

Unfortunately, I have not seen it on the store shelves.
