All the best to you AchtungBaby!

I have my secondary teaching degree in English but have never used it. Still, I am happy I have it and the course of study was so applicable to many other aspects of my life and work that I am happy to this day that I chose it.

Just a few words of advice:
NEVER let anyone who says to you "Those who can, do; those who can't, teach." Cut them off before they can finish the sentence. This is one of the supidest phrases ever invented by human beings. It's pure BS.

I'm sure you know this already, but do not go into teaching thinking you will have your summers free. Great teachers are always engaged in their jobs; morning, noon and night, 365 days a year. If ever you meet another student in one of your classes who thinks otherwise, please set them straight on this. If they still want to pursue teaching because they want summers off, pray they never graduate!

And again... all the best to you and godspeed!

Be sure to do your homework on the job market for elementary teachers (pun intended). My daughter is off to college next year and plans to major in secondary and post-secondary education for mathematics. We were advised the job market will continue to be dismal in the foreseeable future for elementary teachers coming out of college, and almost nonexistent in the northeast. The market for mathematics, physics and to a degree science teachers still looks good as mathematics and physics teaching positions remain the hardest for schools to fill.

Beloved Daughter-In-Law related the story, with a little embarrassment, of meeting with a job counselor who tells her, "Huh. Attractive female math teacher. You're not going to have problems finding a job."
