I'm really battling through this one. I'm a sports fan, but baseball doesn't belong in the culture of my country, so I have no idea what they are talking about when they discuss the matches' highlights. Also, so far I've reached 1/3 of the book and it seems more of an O'Nan book than King's. So far, I've noticed that there are more Stewart's thoughts than Stephen's. Anyway, back to the battle... after all, I'm close to the finish line of Stephen King books.

Interesting idea. Should you like what your favourite author likes? I'd say no. But at the same time, if I really admired the person I would think that I'm missing out on something interesting that they have a view into which makes them what they are. I guess I would check it out after all.

Stewart also mentioned that the book was originally meant to be about why the fans kept coming back after years of futility (hence the title "Faithful"), and the BoSocks "kind of ruined it by winning the World Series" that year!

This is an idea that gained some traction for a little while (mostly thanx to Dan Shaughnessy). Sox fans love their angst, and I'd be willing to bet that at least some of them -- besides me -- kind of miss it. But remember that this is the team that came back from an 0-3 deficit to the hated (read: envied) New York Yankees.

Yes . . . the Red Sox eventually won the Series, but can you imagine how delighted so many of them must have been, so certain they could never possibly come back from that deficit to that team.

Like I say, I'm sure some of them had to be at least secretly disappointed that what they thought of as their own special hell . . . was over.

Oh . . . and as an addendum to my previous post, the Sox winning the World Series did ruin that great epitaph I recall Mr. King once saying he would love to have should he "go on" without witnessing a World Series title for his favorite team:

"Not in my life . . . and not in yours!"

I'm coming clean. I have to admit it. Here goes: I've never read this book. It's the only King book I don't own. I fear I will be bored stiff...don't hate me.
I feel sorry for you, this is the essential piece in the SK multiverse jigsaw, it really expands on every idea he's put into previous novels. You'll look at all his novels differently after reading this.
