Since a few of us are reading/have read this one by Clare Mackintosh, I took up no bounce no play on the suggestion of starting a new thread.

I really liked this book - the story took you one way but then did a U-turn. I love when an author catches me off guard.

Thanks for making the board :) This has been an intense read! I took a break at chapter 37 to let my nerves calm down lol. I have a question before I continue...
Is Beau killed?

I will be on the lookout for it. I've not read Gone Girl or The Girl on the Train though.

I read both of those. Gone Girl remains one of my favorite novels. The Girl on the Train didn't impress me. It wasn't horrible, just didn't live up to the hype.

Just finished the book and really loved it. Thanks for recommending it, 80sFan. I loved the writing style from all the different points of view. The author's note was interesting too. I hope she will continue writing.

I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I can't believe I almost gave up on it, would've been my loss.
I agree about the writing style, looking forward to her next novel.

I read them both as well. Honestly, I don't even remember The Girl on the Train.

Gone Girl was afternoon read for me. Ok to pass the time - enjoyable read, but nothing to get all worked up about. IMO. I think I wanted to read it before I saw the movie. Or maybe after I saw the movie? Forget.

I will give this book a go. Thanks.

Did any of you realize that the female narrator from chapter two through the end of part one was not the mother of Jacob? I was totally taken by surprise.

That was the U-turn I was referring to. Maybe other readers figured that one out, but I was shocked.
I actually went back in the book (before reading further) to see how it could be possible, the author did such a great job.

I figured it out, but only bc Stacey (with or without the 'e,' I can't remember!) said there was a major twist in the book. I never would have known...I don't usually try to figure anything out--just read and take it as it is. Still, it was not really clear, so I enjoyed it just as much.
